:-?

non sequiter.

you're comparing mental patients on prozac whose rampages killed tens and had nothing to do with religion with true mass murderers of millions and millions who were avowed atheists? you are saying the guys i mentioned didn't commit mass murders that were well documented and that those guys weren't well documented atheists as well?

strange way of avoiding reality.......

those guys with rifles and clips killed what is a drop in the hat compared to the numbers killed in traffic accidents. these killings are more than tragic, especially personally to each family, whom my heart goes out to, but hardly an overwhelming problem considering just how many weapons are out there(stop prescribing prozac like it's candy and the biggest shootings don't even happen at all. EVERY single mass shooter since the first biggy at the mcdonalds to columbine to VT, was on seratonin uptake inhibitors). back to comparing autos, or better, prescription drugs or even gas heat in houses, you'll find a very small percentage of problems from all these weapons, relatively. there IS a lot of fear mongering though, acting like common people can't ever be trusted, unlike your average atheist communist military leader who is not doing his job if he doesn't kill at least 500,000.

ALL OF YOUR COMMENTS ARE ATTEMPTS TO DRAW THE DISCUSSION OFF TOPIC, HOWEVER! the topic is christopher hitchens and his book and whether he's worth listening to. mr hitchens has pretty well shown that he is a hypocrite who blames religion for warmongering and then plays the warmonger himself.

i don't care if you are an atheist, that's your business.

By 'eck, but this thing keeps running and running doesn't it?

I haven't got the time to keep reading every post in this and a couple of other "sort-of-related-topics" - I like to make use of my Scope card from time to time.

I keep trying to get to the bottom of this though.

I've read that religion has something to do with Hobgoblins:
There's a funny little man in my garden with a fishing rod and a red hat. I don't think he's a hobgoblin, I think he's a gnome, but hey, I'll worship him anyway :)
What rubbish!

Another post in a related thread (I think it was ManFriday) suggested that there was one person here who claimed to be a Christian.
If you meant me, then I don't claim to be one - I AM one. But I am not one of these American style Bible bashers that have things running along the bottom of the TV screen saying "Send me all your money".
Again, that disgusts me.

Braincell, again, in a related topic, seemed to back off and say that he was having a hard time with his family. So, is this his excuse for lashing out at the rest of the world?
Braincell, there are close friends and relationships that I have formed on this site over the years and a couple of those are a party to the problems that I have been going through in the last year. I do not blame the rest of the world for it though.

Braincell, remember one piece of wisdom:
When you point a finger at someone, there are 3 more pointing back at yourself from your own hand. Deal with those 3 and then look at the one you are pointing at others!

Another little saying that I read recently is that the best way to destroy your enemy is to make him your friend. Well, I neither consider you an enemy, nor wish you any wrong. I sympathise with you for the problems you are having, and although you are anti-theist, I will continue to pray, as I have daily, that you will get through these problems. Laugh or deal with it - that is my olive branch to you.

Perhaps we are all under a misconception though that you are male, American.
You may be a Swedish blonde female in America: Miss Inga Braincell

or you may be a Russian red haired female in America: Ivanta Braincell

(sorry, couldn't help it - a little demon entered my head)

How insightful Gary, yes! The church creates mental patients. That is *exactly* what I am saying.

Braincell, there hasn't been a 'The Church' since Martin Luther King (not Jr).

our freind Sadaam was also an atheist, secular leader.

all these guys believed in gun control.

the religious have no patent on mass murder. in fact, the religious leaders who called for mass murder never were believers in the religions they represented.

Ignore this

Bingo you have a real talent for missing the point.
Is it natural or is it something you learned and cultivated over the years?

Your point was addressed many posts before this one. You and gafy and stardust denied vehemently everything braincell and I said. I'm not into pain so I'm not going to repeat what I said.

I don't want to start a new thread so I'll dump the following in this one:

the “men” forms of the beings seem interested in very similar things as the “women” forms of the creatures: images of young, fit, scantly clad females smiling into a modest breeze… it is as if the most primal instincts of the creatures – those revolving around sexual reproduction – have manifested into some sort of convoluted assemblage of imagery and text. and they never tire of it; they’re all drawn to it: every month another fleshy young female, another 10 ways to make him love you, another 8 hot tips on fixing this end or that… where will these interests lead the creatures? only time will tell.

wow, this one got carried away

Strange thing is that you guys seem to be going round in circles argueing about practically nothing.

Everything garyb has said on this forum about what HE considers the 'truth' really IS has fallen into place for me. I now know exactly where he's coming from with all the posts he makes which 'sound' like conspiricy theories. I'm not saying I agree with garyb on everything he's said here, but I do know what he means when he suggests that you need to do some research & get a grip of the real problems. For example, the fact that trillions of people have been brainwashed by plagurised religeous stories, myths & ideologies isn't the biggest problem .... THE REAL problem is that many of the same dimwits walk down to the polling station & VOTE FOR A NAZI !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :P

yep, that's what you're doing right now. interesting that you post that story about the rape of a 15 year old girl in Iraq...that's what Christopher Hitchens supported by calling for military action(soldiers always do that sort of thing)... totally not caused by religion....

You and brain sow hate.
Meanwhile you do not even try to hide that.
You particularly are boastful and aggressive, a veritable role model of your doctrine.
No sign of reflection and respect, only self righteous repetition.

Did you hope to make friends this way ?
Did you really expect that you find applause and enthusiastic support ?
Did you think anyone dries your false tears ?

We can't support lies just for the purpose of getting along. I don't hate anyone in this group. If you are offended then may I suggest it could be because you are insecure about your beliefs? Let's not make this into Mr. Rogers Neighborhood. Have you no balls? I think Gary enjoys informing us about his conspiracy theories regarding the Illuminati.

communist, atheist chinese officials have used similar.

i do agree with you in what you oppose, if it's torture and mayhem. that's wrong no matter what the excuse. for some reason, those in charge hate and fear people and seem to enjoy killing them for ridiculous reasons. religion is just one of many convienient excuses.

hating the average christian, who if he follows the church's dictates, only has good intentions(unlike the higher levels of the church) won't help. hating him is like hating masons. the problem is not christians or what they believe in. those torture devices weren't created for religion, but for power and control. they were created for terror's sake. they are the product of evil deviants, who do things like that to the population over the course of history for every conceivable excuse that can be found. it must be that when one controls everything and then starts to consolidate power via inbreeding that a nasty, stupid, evil, deviant, sadistic ruling class is bound to develope. when you're a nasty, stupid, evil, deviant, sadistic ruling class, you gotta get your kicks somehow. such a group of people become paranoid, and destruction of the masses is then the best and safest course of action.

your anger is appropriate. it's directed at the wrong target. your anger was anticipated(these people fund the studies on human behavior). there have been targets provided for your anger to release it into the society, to create further division and further the agenda of torturing and killing people for fun. these things are still quite prevalent on physical and mental levels today. you'll never be free of them, or the threat of them when you can't pinpoint the real enemy.

I didn't see the words "Pope Gregory IX" anywhere in your post?
Are you intentionally omitting facts? Can you please find a place anywhere in your post to insert the words "Pope Gregory IX"?
Thank you!
