Well, I wouldn't worry about Russia.
They have had Subs off of our coasts for decades. They have gone from maybe 30 Akula class subs off of our Eastern seaboard down to 2 or 3....hardly a threat these days.
Russia's people are very strong and unafraid of their Government. Israel and the USA have all of Russia's most influential Criminal Organizations working with our Intelligence agencies, and I doubt the people of Russia will allow their Government to starve them anymore. Those days are long gone.
You can always tell where we are going to have a " regime change " by the placement of our troops. Military bases can come and go. BTW Subic Bay is still quite active regardless of the closing....just like the Panama Canal, Guantanamo Bay...etc.etc.
Afghanistan is the most logical staging point. And the deception of us needing 60,000 more troops to fight 5 or 6 thousand nomadic freedom fighters is laughable,and I bet the Mullahs know this. Think about it. Saudi Arabia, Iraq and then Iran. That is pretty much the entire Middle Eastern Oil Reserves. And revoltuion is ripe in Iran. The timing couldn't be better.
Looking at this politically, a second term for a President is always where wars are started. Then the new President can blame the old guy, while he acts like he wants the troops out, etc.,etc. We have been in the Persian Gulf practically 2 decades. To leave w/o knocking off the Mullahs, which is what the Saudis have wanted for years, would be an incredible waste.

It's all about how our Politicians for the last 9 years have wasted our money and failed to do what they were sent there to do, so now they want a huge revenue stream to have access to.
