Hi there,
funnily enough I spent some time with Monomorph trying to recreate this problem. sure enough, even when I save the patch as a new patch and create a new set of presets, the problem still persists. I don't get 'these presets are only x% compatible' but I do get presets which don't store all the values of the modules in the patch, so the patches don't sound the same when you reload them. In particular I noticed that the AND/OR/XOR module bottom left doesn't get it's value saved, but I'm sure there are others.
This is a great shame as it seems like you've put a LOT of effort into building this file, recording sound examples, trying to fix the preset problem, etc.
You hit the point! Most annoying thing is if you try to find a workaround by avoiding some modules or recreateing the patch from scratch (even in another shell) doesn't change anything but stealing more time and effort. You wouldn't believe how often i thought i had a working versions only to find out after creating several presets that it was screwed up again.
I certainly had great fun playing with the patch whilst trying to get the presets to work, but in its current state its not usable.
If you like that one you would love the extended version which i was working on at last. That baby definitly rocks
Even if we don't get a fix soon from CW, it would be nice to have some advice on how best to operate in order to try and avoid this happening.
I guess they don't know what causes the troubles. As i mentioned earlier i suspect some (unfortunatly essential) modules in certain installations.

I called support yesterday and he said that he never heard of the problem. I tried a clean install, by the way I must install from the CD otherwise I get things missing such as modular tabs, modular presets in the routing window and modules in the modular synthesizer. I haven't used it extensively since then but I can tell you that the old project still does not load correctly. I saved a new preset which got rid of the X% missing message when loading the project again but I now have a cryptic error message that says something about an exception. It seems that Creamware is not totally aware of the problem. Please email Paul Tanti
support@creamware.com. Let him know I'm not the only one with this problem and maybe they will get working on it. If you do it soon he will remember my telephone call from yesterday.
Kensuguro, Paul knows who you are and has respect for you. Maybe you can be more articulate to him than I was since you are a programmer.

Hi braincell,
good to hear that someone maybe interested in this. I was in contact with the german support for some time and we talked and wrote a lot. I made the experience that although i clearly discribed the bugs and yet sometimes found its sources myself they even didn't verify the probs. I sent a link to planetZ to provide more information but I only got standardized replys and old fashined workarounds like creating a new preset file bla....bla....what fun :-/
Personally i won't get in touch with any official support for that issue again because it's doomed to fail.
If anybody of them should REALLY be interested he's welcomed to simply watch this thread and if he needs some evidence he just needs to download the Monomorph from this site. After that we can talk.
Regards, Stefan

I wrote support and I'll write again to link them to this thread and be more insistent... We must put pressure on cw so they rid us of that most annoying bug...

Mac users (well me anyway) also have a bug where samples do not play back properly from the Modular sample players. This and the presets bug is putting me off buying FleXor as i have already paid for the ModIII upgrade and this doesn't work properly so i don't really want to invest any more time or money in ModIII.

It's good to not give up. Think of Rear Admiral Grace Hopper who invented Cobalt. When told that women are not allowed to be admirals she pestered congress until they changed the law of the navy. I was lucky enough to see her speak at a college graduation ceremony.

Oh !! me too !
I spent hours on a patch and suddenly : * poof * no message but coudn't be loaded !
The progress bar stops, CPU 100 % SFP : no response so ctrl-alt-del ...
Also sudden BSOD, corrupt files, with D filter the preset file suddenly doesn't work : can't load and can't create ! etc, etc ...
I really enjoy spending time that will go down the toilets !!

I'm just going to not use the modular until they fix it. Maybe in the next version of SFP? It seems that some people don't have any problem including the development team at CW. I would imagine that it would be difficult to fix unless it is happening for them. The only sollution I could think of is to ship one of our computers to them or if they could visit one of us. Maybe remote viewing? There seems to be a wall between the development team and the support. I wish we could get one of them to post at least a brief message here.

sooner or later we all get trapped in this. Weired to think 3rd party modules would behave better in a buggy enviroment. That's the reason why i won't buy flexor although i really like it and appreciate Aderns good work. Maybe they've chosen the wrong platform. BTW, still no word from CW...

must be one of those "taboo" topics. Recently I've started to create patches for every single project. And save them as different files. I never use presets anymore. That means I can't make any distributions with presets, but atleast I can use modular for my own projects. Seems to be the easiest way out.
I'm not even going to be hopeful about this. It's an apparent bug in a very basic part of the modular platform. It'll take a while for CW to get right. So, in the meanwhile, we'll just have to learn to live with it. Same thing happened to me in Max/MSP. Their frickin' 12db/oct state variable filter (or multimode) locks up the system nomatter what I do. So, I just have to live with it. If there's nothing I can do about, then I just have to accept it and learn to live with it. It's like arthritis or diabetes.. or even cancer.

What gets me is that CW wont even come out and say that they acknowledge there is a problem and that they are looking into it.
Communication is the key. A shame as CW seemed to be posting on this site again.

Menno:
I agree 100% It's like politics. A president can never say he did something wrong because it would hurt him or his party in the next election. It would be so refreshing to see some honesty.
Kensuguru:
I'm under the impression that some people don't have this problem. I'm building a new computer. I'll check to see if the problem still exists.

CW is definitely aware of the bug, but is very shy to say anything about it.
I vote we have a "Fix the Bloody Preset Bug" day. On this nominated day we get as many as possible to spam all known CW email addresses.
But this plan won't be successfully irritating to CW unless we get enough people to join in.
Sort of like an American "write to your congressman" campaign.

I'm seriously worried that all though this "preset bug" seems like a small problem, isn't such a small problem after all, and might even be something that CW havn't got a solution for. This could explain why CW wont acknowldege the bug at all - they can't fix it!

I'm in for the "fixmodbug day"!

I think the fact that they are not responding must mean it's a major problem that they don't know how to fix. Maybe it is some malicious code inserted by a disgruntled programmer.

Or maybe it doesnt make any sense to update a part of a software which is about to be completely updated?
I don't know how you guys work, but I *always* save patches and presets in the project folder. One reason for that is that they will never get lost, since all necessary files are together in one folder. Another reason is that I never keep patches in a song as they were loaded initially. The patches are always optimised for the project, as the song builds, so some modules are deleted and others added. Of course I get 'presets are only xx% compatible' message, but I don't care as long as the patch loads how I saved it.
I think they cannot fix this issue with a simple update, and the update won't work for older patches, so only for patches made after the update. So imagine the update is called SFP4, then I vote for letting CW work on a better SFP4 than fixing aged stuff.
My 2 cents.
