kensuguro wrote:hey, didn't realize what this thread was about.. I can throw in some content if you need me to write. I've been a long time scope user though my desktop died and it's taken a back seat for the time being.. (with os 3.5 lol!) Not really sure what my contribution would be tho.
Well most of the 8 slots for edition one are fairly well fleshed out, I'm still tweaking the 'LIVE - THE ONLY WAY' section and I probably need to research SpaceF modular mixer a bit more so I can actually say something about it rather than just linking to his site. EG I need to actually play with the demo I spose, or get someone to give me content on it.

So apart from that, we're looking at the next edition which could be an open book, and if you can come up with something that would be great. The only things I had slated for Edition 2 were :

1) Dynatube feature.
2) More Free Device reviews ( eg Neutron Paradox ).
3) Hopefully an extension to using Scope live section ( if thats not exhausted ).
4) Mastering by mausmuso
5) More tutorials. You notice I did one for Cubase. But if anyone using Logic, Reaper or other sequencers want to come to the party with a tute about how to use Scope with thier sequencer that would be good as well.

Also, if you've got 8 bars of top quality music produced on Scope ( pref using Scope synths etc ) I can loop in the background on some pages that would be good as well.

Modular is another one I would rely on other contributors coz Ive really done bugger all on modular yet...

Spose we could do a feature on 2OP FM as well....:)

Ok then you're on for a Modular article in Edition 2. You could do it in Word then I can format it into HTML. Take your time & make it rock.

I think this will be much better than a 2OP deluxe feature....:)

Better get yer desktop fixed....

do you have any guidelines for the writers? length, format, etc.

Take a look at Jav's B-3 page as yours could probably be similar in format - eg a page or two of text followed by a screen dump of your patch or whatever. Notice how he stacked his open modules under the routing section all jammed along the top. I think this is a good representation

http://www.hitfoundry.com/b2003_rev.htm

Then myself ( let me worry bout fonts, format etc ) and Mr Arkadin will knock it into shape - we have to get it passed by his proof read...but I can do that with him after you've done your bit.

kensuguro wrote: I'm in the web business (ya ya, the web 2.0 startup thing) and though I can't throw my company's resources at this, the first thing that pops into mind is DESIGN. We can throw everything we've got at it, and if it's not designed properly, it won't move the needle. Do we have any designers on Z? Not to take a jab at Dante's mockup, I think at this point it's important to move forward and not lose momentum, but we should be on the lookout for design resources.
Basically I used the UAD webzine format as a guide, so its fairly close to thiers. When you get thier email it shows 8 pictures ( 4 rows of 2 ) each of which you can click on to open a browser page for the full article. I've just changed this to 2 rows of 4 so less need to scroll down.

So when you get the email, same thing as UAD's - click on a pick and it opens a browser page for the full article.

Is it this apsect you'd see as needing better design, or something else ( eg just general easthetics ) ?

I think just general aesthetics, but I think that's secondary at the moment. Good content first. (it's hard for me not to ask for one of our guys to take a look at it) One thing though, from time to time, we're reminded that simple is better. Classic fonts such as Avenir, Gotham, gill sans, helvetica are just easier to read. Our site was listed top 50 websites by Times so it can't be bad. But again, don't take my word for it, I just work with the designers. I'm sure someone here can pitch in their design experiences. I can ask our guys but we'll have to pay, and our guys are expensive.

I also took a look at the desktop again, and found it was a failing C drive, so I'll get that fixed and should be able to access my patches again.

Ask em what they think of Verdana - thats what I'm using for body text, and for the headings I'm using a NASA font called NASALISATION, to give it that hi-tech feel, which I think fits with the monolithic 'XITE-1' pic. It's a sort of theme drawn from 'that' movie about the Dawn of an Age etc.

Verdana is the web standard where I work. I have Helvetica and Gill Sans but not the other two, which suggests they are probably not standard Windows fonts so wont show in people's browsers unless I use a font embedding technology (which I don't have in Frontpage). This is the same problem I have with the NASA font, where I have to convert the headings to graphics, which is OK for headings but way too time consuming for body text which is subject to change all the time.

I'm not sure you need to pay your guys to evaluate it, just put here some links to sites you like the look and feel of (including the one that won the Times award) then we can drill down on why they look better and whether I can implement any of those formats.

For sure a pro web developer with skills and tools superior to mine would do a better job, but until that guy comes along for free I guess it's down to me, frontpage and the feedback/input of the members here :)

Some words I threw together in relation to Modular Mixing
Modular Mixer

The Modular Mixer developed by SpaceF for SCOPE platforms is masterful in its concept and application. If you can think of a mixing configuration you might need for a particular project, it is almost certain you can build it in Modular Mixer.
The key word here is ‘flexibility’. If you can conceive it you can have it.

A mixer has a number of key components.
There basic components like channels, summing circuits and buss outputs.
Add to this some sophistications like Mono or Stereo Channels with true Stereo FXs Inserts, Auxiliary routing, Sub-mix bussing, Inserts, Sends, Stems, Monitoring, Record Outputs, EQ/Filtering, Modulation, Ducking/Sidechaining, Cross fading FXs, Midi Automation and you start to have something that resembles a Studio Desk or a high end Stage mixer right there in your computer.
Now image the various components of a mixer come in modules that can be freely connected the way you want them.
Wow! A Modular mixer that does exactly what I want and I can choose:
• How many channels I will have,
• How I route them to various busses and outputs,
• Whether or not I will side-chain various channels,
• Where I will insert FXs
• Whether I will cross fade FXs channels
• Whether I will create Stems for mastering or recording, and
• Much, much more.

The Modular Mixer embodies everything that’s so highly prized by owners of SCOPE – Flexibility and complexibility in realizing your musical dreams.

SpaceF has developed a number of blogs to help you begin to understand the enormity of this system and how it might turn your music into a professional product.

garyb - Well thats the idea of a newsletter.... I'm relying on you guys to a degree to get some new-to-scope-audio-pros subscribed ..

mausmuso - apologies I **JUST** missed your post by a coupla hours before constructing the mod mixer page, but if the concept gets approved, I'll then incorporate from your text anything thats missing from mine ( eg crossfades and sidechaining - probably coz I dont actually understand those....yet !!!! )

Again thanks for input.....

Heres the latest on the modular mixer after content input from mausmuso, GregH and SpaceF

http://www.hitfoundry.com/modmix.htm

Lets play a game "Guess The Muso's". First to name all ( or highest number of ) the musicians shown gets to nominate a feature spot in Edition 2, on thier own performances / use of scope gear or highlighting any artist(s) they have produced on scope gear etc.

HI Dante,
I got excited and had a go at Mastering in SCOPE.
Happy for anyone to amend as they see fit.
Just did it off the top of my head - hopefully its factual.

Yep this is a definite go-er. I've added it to my "Edition 2 Draft Content" folder.

Definately more advanced than my basic one at http://forums.planetz.com/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=29318

I'm thinking to have 1 page per edition that should contain more complex setups featuring non out-of-the-box components ( such as the modular add-ons we've got for B-3 in Edition 1 ).

So this looks like the one for Edition 2.
