So far I like the new regulations on financial institutions and credit card companies.
Re: Dick Armey Fired From DLA Piper
really?
do they really limit bad behavior?
so far the biggest banks have used the money that they loaned to the government that gave the money back to them to buy up all the little institutions. that's how they shored up the banking industry after limiting credit to those same little banks after encouraging them to loan risky amounts of credit on assets made of credit. as far as i can see, the shenanigans are continuing as usual. if the preceding sentences are obscure and easily misunderstood, then some light should be shed on the function of lawyer/official-speak. have you actually read the legislation and executive orders relating to that which you speak, or are you basing your opinion on what some official news agency or your favorite commentator says about such legislation and/or executive orders.
if Congress were to reclaim the printing of money and refuse to accept or pay for usury, shutting down the Fed and it's bully boy collection agency, i might begin to believe that someone is working in my best interest...

There are no regulations on either the institutions or credit card companies. You need to turn off CNN.braincell wrote:So far I like the new regulations on financial institutions and credit card companies.
The so-called 'regulations' are really just consolidation contracts to force smaller banks to shut down while the big six pick up the pieces - at their discretion. THIS function, by the way, is NOT regulated.
3200+ banks have shutdown since January. If you have a home loan that you're actually paying off legitimately, and one of these banks gets gobbled up, then the Citibanks of the world can call in your loan as collateral on their acquisition. THIS function, by the way, is NOT regulated.
You're being deceived.
http://thomaspainescorner.wordpress.com ... ense-2009/Congress gutted the Glass-Steagall Act, which separated commercial lending banks from investment banks, and passed the Commodity Futures Modernization Act, which allowed for self-regulation with no oversight. The Securities and Exchange Commission subsequently revised its rules to allow for even less oversight — and we’ve all seen how well that worked out. To date, no serious legislation has been offered by the Obama administration to correct these problems.
Instead, Obama wants to increase the oversight power of the Federal Reserve. Never mind that it already had significant oversight power before our most recent economic meltdown, yet failed to take action. Never mind that the Fed is not a government agency but a cartel of private bankers that cannot be held accountable by Washington. Whatever the Fed does with these supposed new oversight powers will be behind closed doors.
Obama’s failure to act sends one message loud and clear: He cannot stand up to the powerful Wall Street interests that supplied the bulk of his campaign money for the 2008 election. Nor, for that matter, can Congress, for much the same reason.
The Dems poop stinks just as much as the Reps.

Being a mere european, i like that the dems still haven't started any huge, meaningless wars. yet.
Oh, and i also like that you, after 8 years, finally have a president that is able to complete a sentence where the words is put in an order that actually have a meaning.
A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort.

that's not how we do it over here. one side always sets up the other. you probably haven't noticed, but the current administration has INCREASED the presence in the middle east and Afghanistan, not the opposite. maybe they didn't start it, but they're certainly carrying it out. also, would you rather face an obviously hostile bumbling idiot, or a smooth operator, who speaks well and never shows his true intentions, but who is equally hostile? having dark skin and being able to speak well does not make a true humanitarian. true humanitarians don't have staff members who have openly eugenic policies and intentions.
by the way-congratulations on the EU, an organization that has achieved legal entity, corporate status and soveriegnty over the individual nation-states. now they don't need that pesky constitution that the majority of Europe declined. they can just make laws unilaterally regardless of what the "its"* think..
*according to Plato's Republic, there is the inner ruling body, that is rarely, if ever seen. there is the helper class that is the government and then there are the "its", the commoners, who don't even qualify as human. only the upper classes actuallyt develope a "soul". the rest are chattle, an animal herd...

Ask Honduras how much they appreciate the CIA (supposedly acting under 'US interests') medling in their affairs.
Obomba is a ruse. He is not calling the shots.

Re: Dick Armey Fired From DLA Piper
I am glad to see our Brethren from Europe happy about our newest President.
And the outcry for a better actor has been answered.
Obama is going to get his way with social change because his organization knows the game too well. They will continue to take military orders from OPEC and the IMF, while they continue to nail down huge new loans from the Saudi's.
There is a much larger war on the horizon that Obama's crew is providing dissinformation on.
Do you honestly think the multitudes of Jewish advisors that surround the President are really anti-Israeli...?
With our Government, the media is used to spread the " vision " of what they want, when in all reality, it is the exact opposite.
That's why when I see Obama giving speeches about faith around the Globe, I know he isn't a believer, and that is fine. We don't need religion in politics, that's for places that publicly beat and stone women for drinking Beer or voting.
But to tell the Israelis not to build more settlements, while being so kind to the Mullahs as they kill people in the streets is what I find alarming. It is an old pattern of deception that has been used to fool the world over and over.
Don't listen to the television, just look at where Obama wants more troops, and then ask yourself which country we are surrounding.
No sir, I have seen these games played since Vietnam.
Also, add the fact that my son who is a retired Marine Aviator who did 2 tours in Afghanistan, has been contacted and offered some serious extra benfits to return to service.
This is just a temporary occupant we have, who will be replaced by another that continues the same shell game, while getting social and domestic allowances for particular beliefs.
Obama will also get his Internal security force he hasn't spoken about since Chicago days.
This President is a firm believer in force, don't kid yourselves.
Besides who is going to stop the USA from whooping on the Iranians.....Israel won't even be involved. We will simply have another Gulf Of Tonkin w/ Oil Tankers in the Persian Gulf.
All we have to do is put up a giant poster of the Mullahs on our boats with loud rock and roll music playing at high decibals to get the Iranians to fight. They are so predictable. And yes all of those speeches about Americans swimming in their own blood, blah, blah, blah.
Their demise and replacements were put in place long ago.

As a European, I congratulate you on being a member of an inherently more intelligent and compassionate society. I'm more liberal than the Democrats but they clearly are superior to the only viable alternative, the rethuglicans. Any complaints about the dems I have, and I do have many, is far outweighed by the ineptitude, fear mongering and violence of the other side not to mention their love of the wealthy at the expense of the middle class and poor. I'm for wealth redistribution just like our brothers in Europe. If that seems unfair to some people so be it. I pay for other peoples kids to go to school etc.. That is what a civilized society does. Without any socialism, we would have mayhem.

Greg, There are new regulations and more on the way. You are wrong and I am right:
"More protections are coming down the pipeline and will go into effect in February of next year. Among the most important are payment allocation rules, restrictions on marketing to college students, and restrictions on how card companies raise interest rates."

Re: Dick Armey Fired From DLA Piper
And BC with all due respect, you need to actually read the article.
This actually highlights the fact that consolidation is taking place, that rates and fees will go up, and that access to credit will go down (unless you pay out your ass for it). The regular consumer will actually be hurt by these strategies - and they are UN-regulated. There are no Bills in Congress, there is no oversight, there is no vote, and the policies are driven by the lending companies themselves.
Problem/reaction/solution - it's oftentimes the so-called 'SOLUTION' you have to watch out for.
You also haven't asked yourself who actually authored this article, and who actually OWNS Businessweek. There is source, and there is conjecture, and there is real data.
I recommend not taking ANY of this stuff at face value, and start looking through the agendas and wordsmithing.
The Fed just used your taxes and future debt of your offspring to pay off banksters that just had 'record profits' this last quarter. Have you benefitted?
Do some research on who owns our debt, and then ask yourself who's best-interest they have in mind?

...and people forget that Russia spent ten years fighting in Afghanistan, only to watch it's economy crumble and force it to pull out - leaving the CIA-trained Taliban to fight for another day - apparently leading up to 9/11. It's a never-ending story, and the US is at risk of disappearing entirely IMO - with this war as one more excuse. And I DON'T think the so-called alternative or future of the US will be what people want. It definitely won't be liberalized Socialism.XITE-1/4LIVE wrote:Besides who is going to stop the USA from whooping on the Iranians.....Israel won't even be involved. All the religious idologies, and terrorism this, and whatever are all puppets in this parade.

Re: Dick Armey Fired From DLA Piper
Access should go down because people are borrowing way too much. They either never go out of dept or they go bankrupt which hurts the economy. If you pay it back within the month, your rates are zero. I don't think giving college students with no credit history large lines of credit is a good idea.
Let's go back to making people prove they have an adequate income before they buy a house and also, maybe they don't need a Mcmansion, which is an energy hog!

I doubt it will be successful the next time around, but so far I think only Ireland has told the Treaty-mongers to go f-themselves.
Meanwhile, there are about 35 US States formulating plans for 'secession' (in one form or another).

The war in Afghanistan will not end while Obama is in office. I disagree with him that it is "a war of necessity." I could even imagine it being his downfall if he escalates it.
Re: Dick Armey Fired From DLA Piper
he already has escalated!
more troops=escalation.
more troops=escalation.
Re: Dick Armey Fired From DLA Piper
when these creeps withhold credit, which is only a necessity because the credit creators have created a credit driven economy, it won't be people with "McMansions" losing their homes, for the most part. it will be those fools who believed that they were finally getting a slice of pie and home "ownership", those who were fooled by the marketing of credit "products(that's what the loan companies call loans, "products"). besides, people like Al Gore use more electricity, personally, than many small towns. individual commoners can use energy like it'll never run out and not be nearly the same kind of pigs as the wealthy, and eliminating that commoner excess won't make any real impact on energy waste. those with power and money are always the biggest pigs, because they can be, but they never take the blame.braincell wrote:Let's go back to making people prove they have an adequate income before they buy a house and also, maybe they don't need a Mcmansion, which is an energy hog!
also, they DO prove they have adequate income before they get a loan. commoners must show proof of income, something the wealthy can just state as fact without proof. it's not some it's fault that the lender is willing to make a risky loan. risky loans are NOT the source of the economic instability, anyway.
Re: Dick Armey Fired From DLA Piper
You guys are overlooking the troops going to Afghanistan. This is a ploy for the believers.
We don't need them. NATO and the EU already know this, that is why their troop levels will not rise.
We beat the Taliban already with 100 Special Forces troops back in 2001-2002.
This is solely for the war that is coming in Iran, and for the capturing and delegating of the Poppy drug trade for those who play ball with us.
Make no mistake we are preparing already. We filled our strategic oil reserves to twice the capacity during the first few years in Iraq, and Iran is going to be our next convenient truth.
All I see and hear is Green talk, and massive NGO backed commercials 24/7.
But no initiatives are being taken, this is a massive propaganda campaign to appear as though the USA doesn't want oil. Baloney, we just don't want to use our resources.
Every little war for the last 20 years has been for oil.
Why do we have so many private security forces in Iraq who answer to nobody.....?
These are private firms that kill and go after anyone who screws with the oil.
Why do you think the " Insurgants " never blew the facilities up...? Because the private mercanaries could torture kill and maim anyone w/o fear of the " law ".
I don't have all of the answers but when it comes to covert war, overt war and private security firms, I have more than a few relatives who are retired military.
This is where the guys who like money, guns and action go.
And I do hear some great stories from people in the know.
We will do this with China's blessing too as they will get cheaper oil, and it will guarantee their loans being paid back. War is business, and War is money.
