I also had a range of CD probs after upgrade to XP (but I love most everything else about XP)
in addition to latest ASPI drivers, I found that upgrading the firmware in my plextor burner also help get rid of some problems. This is similar to flashing a new BIOS in the motherboard, but it loads newer code into a ROM chip on your CDR controller board. This is, of course different from doing a driver update in the OS, and depending on your setup, both may be needed.
So its worth having a look at you CD manufacturer's website to see what they've got there. It helped me.
On the other hand, I too am still having CD problems in XP. In my case, Pulsar now reads my sample CDs okay (anyway, I use CDXtract o move everthing to HDD, so normally I only read CDs once). But under XP (Pro) my Windows Media Player can't read TOCs on audio CDs unless the disk is already in before I launch the MediaPlyr app. (Once this is done they play just fine through pulsar, though)
Its a pain. I'm going to try Winamp instead to see if that's more robust on audio disks.
winXP & Pulsar 3,01 - Pulsar samples CD got NO samples.
i had big problem with cd rom(s) access. i try to update aspi but can't help.
finaly i download nt_wnaspi32 and copy (owerwrite) to c:windows/system32.
now my cd rom(s) works without any problem!

i was thinking that i solved this but i'm not! 
sometimes works - sometime won't!
when i have simple pulsar project in background everything working, but till i add sts3000 in project, then problems start.
now i update newest aspi drivers from adaptec page but still can't work properly.
now i can load akai samples from pulsa browser, but can't access to cd roms with windows explorer if is sts3000 in pulsar backround project. if i already have audio cd in drive when i start pulsar project (with sts3000) then i can access to disks but windows media player can't play!?
btw: my cd roms are on slave chanels!
