It converts Adat to cat 5 and back again and you will be able to have TONS of length on cables.

I've received today 2x10m adat, and it's the same problem.
But we found what it was exactly: in fact the connections of the cable are loose, on both side... By pushing on them, the octopre can synchronize, and I manage to have sound, but with lots of crackles
It's this cable:

I don't understand how they can sell them as they don't fit any Adat hardware I got.

I'll call thomann tomorrow because I loose time and money with bad cables, I hope they will do something.
I'm going to buy the mutec ones, I got some and connections are perfect.

that makes sense. i didn't think that the length was the problem. it's a lesson learned about toslink connectors. it makes you a better engineer. :)

Do you prefer some brands for adat cables ?

I'm using this cable to connect my S5000 sampler to my Scope PCI system (the S5000 is clocked by the Syncplate using a BNC connection)

i never use the premium toslink cables. they often have big ends, which make a difficult fit in tight spaces. i usually use hosa standard cables and i've never had a problem. they're very like the mutec cables that wouterz linked to.

Ok, i've managed to make it work by putting some old toslink connectors to the cable, and it's ok, but I had another strange behavior:
The adat output of my scope card doesn't want to output into the studio, but the two adat of the Pulsar2 card can do it .
The adat from Scope card is lightning, so I don't know what to think, as my optical cables are not very strong (I use them just while waiting for some new ones), but i've light in both side, and they work perfectly on the scope card.
I was using the adat port just one week ago :(

Is it possible that a card can be broken and stop to send adat channels, while the adat port seems to work well with light ?
It can synchronize, but no sound...
With exactly the same cables on the other adat from the Pulsar2, it works immediatly It try to inverse the cable, for the same result...
I can live without this adat port, but I hope it's not broken :(

are you sure that you're testing the correct modules in Scope? it's a dumb question, but....

you might try reseating the i/o daughter card. otherwise, if everything is as you say, it's broken.

Yes, I've tested it for hours as it looked incredible to me...
I'll try to reseat the daughter card, maybe when I moved the computer some dust came into it.
It's strange that it can sync with the octpre mk2 I got.

So i've looked at it closely, and there's a lot of dust inside the computer, and maybe so into the adat connector, as I got a fan for the cards.
I'll clean them, and as The octopre can synchronize, I hope the adat port will not be broken.

Dont think dust ,but use compressed air often ,
it is good for processors and makes low heat on cards.
When you have got the ADAT to work.
You will find it more stable than anything before.
Maybe its that English gear you have ,is not so good.
Maybe you schould try this one M-Audio 2626.

:)
The octopre mk2 is not so bad for the price!
As the 2 other adat ports are working on the other card , i'm a little confused.

Ok I am sorry !
If its new its probarbly only that you need to be more cool.
Gary will fix this for you.
I might say wrong things sometimes .
Forget what i said
All ADAT is very stable.
With many ADAT I repeat again.
Use Mutec MC 7 and make paralell BNC sync to that one.
Its not a Wordclock , its an Amp for the sync signal.
Wordclock master you have to choose yourself.
If only some ADAT is working .
That sounds like you have experimented with Sonic Core.
If you are using an experimental setup.
Then make a new projekt when testing external gear.
The connectors ADAT sometimes get stolen by Peter from Paul.
Thats when you have loaded many things at once before,
or one reverb.
Then just reload the ADAT plugin ,in your project to test.

maybe you could make a screenshot of the routing window while the non-working adat port is being tested....

The faulty "scope Adat A" is in the same place as "Side" here, which has output to Pulsar2 Adat A. So they should have the same output. And it doesn't work.
If I use Pulsar ADAT B, it works too.

It's not the same set-up as the other day: I got all aux through a second table, which is in charge to output samplitude and manage earphones and live monitoring.

As the port was working 2 weeks ago before I move he computer to another room, I hope that it is just dust (we have moved a lot of things) into the adat port. I'll clean it carefuly, but everything is loaded on it, i've worked a lot to have this setup, so i'm a little tired as I can work with the pulsar2 adat.
Maybe i should try with another professional toslink cable (I have change the connectors, maybe that's the reason), but I must wait to have a new one.
I pray that it's not really broken :(

cleaning the ports and resetting the card should be done before anything else, if there's any chance that this is the problem. i've been fooled by a toslink end that appeared to be fully inserted, but because of the computer's case and the way the card sat in the slot, it wasn't. i had checked and double checked the connection and i thought it looked good because the connector contacted the face of the expansion slot. in a similar vein, i've though a card was fully inserted into the slot when it wasn't, all because of the slot on the case being misaligned with the tang on the card's mount.

i'm sorry the last post sounded so final. until you've verified the connection, there's still hope it's something simple but overlooked. not knowing your level of knowledge or skill, i'm not confident about an optical cable with a field-mounted end.

:) No problem Gary !
The connector seem to be ok as the other adat ports catch sync and play well.
Have you ever seen dead adat on a pulsar or scope card ? If it's dead, I hope the expansion card is ok that I can exchange on my other pulsar card which is an XTC
Should it be probable if it's broken that it comes from the expansion card ?
But i'm confident with this problem...The computer is full of dust, maybe if I clean it...But it's not the moment wih the new year :)

HAPPY NEW YEAR !!!

:) same to you.

no, this problem would be the actual adat section of the i/o card. it would be the same on the XTC card.
