I wonder if this is also related to the fact that music listening is going worse every year (, for exemple, in the 70's consumer hifi was good, then people went walkman, then integrated hifi player with 5watt surround speakers, then mp3 (which require a boost in volume to keep the same energy as a wave file) then laptop speakers, pseudo surround dts, then iphone speakers ..... The conditions of listening is proportionally reverse to the technologcal improvement in production quality... weird, or may be parralel to the facrt that music has lost most of its value to the mainstream consumer (qualitative mainly).... anyways...

been trying the Ozone 5 demo, and they improved the limiting big time... now you can get a straight line at the top of your waveshape, getting rid of micro peaks which are often neccessary to get that extra dB.... Using a couple of Melda Production limiter and then Ozone 5 is probably the best DIYT mastering tools i've ever used to date... (of course, this is visible at some zoominjg setting, if you zoom in the wave, you can still see the peaks....
Not yet too sure of their maximizer though, especially the transient algos; with too much effect, it still keeps a lot of dynamics, but it kind of add a layer of thin shadow, which is crisp at the same time, which is weird, but I didn't have the time to learn to use it properly....
definitely something to try....

For what it's worth - I haven't touched Optimaster or PsyQ since I got Samplitude Pro. The Ammunition mastering compressor is fantastic - that one plug-in alone was worth the price of admission to Samplitude. For years I had been hearing how great the mastering tools were in Samplitude - now that I've been using them for a while, I understand all the hoopla. I wish we didn't have to "harm" our mixes with excessive brickwall limiting but in my position I'm compelled to give my clients what they want since they pay my bills.

If you can find it - look for the TLs-3127 Leveling Amplifier from Tin Brooke Tales (there is also a TLs-2095-LA) version which are both free VST devices. Fantastic for small little limiter compressors that dont cost anything.

thanks for the tip, krisrox, I have been using TLs Pocket limiter and Saturated driver for a long long time, and kind of like their sound for some stuff. WIll most certainly check out the newer ones.
