Shakespeare had it right.......................kill all the Lawyers............

Anyone who is really serious about controlling the costs of Health Care knows you put a cap on the lawsuits. That forces everyone to comply, but at the end of the day most politicinas have Law degrees and know nothing of Economics, and Trial Lawyers have a rather large stach of cash to pay for legislation.
We almost had a trial lawyer in the White House, John Edwards.
Too bad he was just another liar who cheated on his wife too. To think that a not so cute woman could shake down a Vice Presidential candidate by having sex is scarry.
Now think about campaign contributions by powerful entities and ask yourself why such ridiculous legisaltion gets passed...?

IMF and OPEC do rule the world.
Bottom line with the new guys in DC is deal making with the cash cows of the world, plain and simple.
When you see a record number of lobbyists as we have now in Washington, it's a sign that the cash is just flying around with zero accountability.
That's what makes politicians happy, left or right doesn't matter.
They could give a rats ass about providing health care for the unfortunate citizens.
It's an excuse to grow and expand ineffiency to new levels, so more cash can be spent to correct and provide.
If they think it is such a great program, let's put them on it and see how long that lasts.
No way that will happen, they are too important to be seen with the serfs and working peasants.

Government is not reason; it is not eloquent; it is force.
Like fire, it is a dangerous servant and a fearful master.

The Republicans bitterly tried to stop social security which is a "mandatory" (and now meager) retirement plan. You would not dare to touch that now. At long last everyone can see that the party of "NO" is bad for the nation. The republicans don't have a plan for anything. All they want to do is fight wars and do nothing for domestic problems. We are sick and tired of it.

Social Security isn't mandatory, if you work for an employer you have little choice but if you are independently employed there's no penalty for not paying in other than not accruing your own benefits for your 'retirement' age.

As for Health Care, of course with many people the conservative polemic seems to be predicated on the idea that "if I can work for a living so you can". The implied meaning being "I'm not paying for someone else to be lazy." But there is some merit to the idea that nationalized health care has a down side (or dark side)

Most states actually offer some level of access to health care already, Group Health is what it's called where I live. It isn't great but as an example my sister was on it for a number of years and she had the choice between Kaiser & Blue Cross, the same 2 'free' options I've had at my last 3 employers. They paid for a $15,000 bill on her ectopic pregnancy complications, which included the MRI (or whatever their current equivalent machine is now), surgery & the hospital stay. It's likely the funds for that come at least in part from the National level, but it's the state administration that manages Group Health and maintains all the health records, etc.

Replacing that with a nationalized system may potentially standardize how that works across states, reduce confusion & streamline the process for people who are increasingly mobile with their work (or lack thereof). At the same time having a system that collects all health care records into a single database is a golden opportunity for lobbyists and backdoor 'data breaches' at the very least. And with all the Avian Flu, Swine Flu etc propaganda we keep seeing having mandatory health care has some darker overtones. At the very least Tamiflu & Meriden will only increase their profits, and if you have more conspiratorial leanings and a little imagination you can just take that ball & run with it even further. Just check what Shroomz wrote here.

I don't have children yet I pay for other children to go to school and that's a good thing. That is mandatory. A lot of things are mandatory. People get sick and they should not be forced to sell their homes because of it. I am 100% in favor of mandatory social services. Currently we have 46 million with no health insurance and many more under insured. If costs continue to rise, almost nobody will be able to afford it. We have people spending a third of their income on health insurance. This is insane and it has to stop. I don't agree with Gary that we should just let people die as he implies. That is not the way a modern nation should behave.

I think you're reducing the use of 'mandatory' to only one meaning in your statements.

Are you in favor of mandatory vaccinations when there is a 'risk'?

Mandatory prescriptions of antidepressants/ADHD drugs to patients a socialized system deems to be 'at risk'?

Mandatory sterilizations of 'at risk' undesirables (like Sterilization of Persons Who Are Mentally Retarded)?

Every single one of these things has occured in the US. And while the last item may not have 'officially' occured in a decade or so (or if it has I haven't seen coverage of it), each of these is an example of when 'mandatory' takes on more meanings than just 'helping those in need.'

Braincell understand this....................right now, today, medicaid & medicare cover everyone already, we pay for treatment of people regardless, it is inefficient and expensive, the insurance companies take adavantage of it, it needs to be fixed.
But this new method of one program fits all is nonsense, and so is your Duplicity of the Arrianna Huffington Post Blog every other reply................At least be original and think of your own reasons and stop your hateful Spu,................we get it here already, you're a Fed with a Scope card. Shenendoah Valley is a good hint O.K.
Now move along if you have nothing to add before you miss another Jerry Springer episode.

No, I am sorry but you do not get it. Medicaid won't kick in until you are broke. That means they take away all of your money, your assets and your home. You might have children depending on you etc.. When they are done with you they say bye and now you are homeless living on the street. That is not acceptable. You absolutely do not get it although you may think that you do. Everyone should be forced to pay for everyone else who is sick. Don't be selfish and greedy!

I have paid for this in taxes for decades, I am not greedy, I just want these elitists to spend the money more wisely. I have friends who pay more taxes than my entire yearly income, so while I contribute I only ask for common sense legisaltion.
Just like I served in the armed forces, I was brainwashed and young, but we were going to fight for those who couldn't defend themselves, so my heart has always and will always be in the right place.
I just don't buy the whole Government growth program.
I only ask that the elitists who claim that public school is so great, put their children in the system, and their " free Health Care for all " should be their program as well, but this is just another excuse to steal more money and have zero accountability.

I want better representation, and what you label as left and right is a game show, I call them elitists who tell me how I should live while they do the exact opposite.
If you buy into this sham, you are only regurgitating some elitist point of view.
If anything this will shorten lives and trial lawyers will make another mockery out of an imperfect solution.
So at least we agree that people who need help should have it, but I shouldn't lose my choice while I provide for others. It's my back that's being broke, for that effort, I want the choice to make and pay for my decisions, not some bureaucrat who knows what's best for me while he steps to the front of the line.
The government allows drugs like Tylenol to be sold over the counter for decades and now we see the FDA is a joke just like every other abbreviated Government Agency.
So I should not listen to my Doctors or listen to Uncle Sam and take his free drugs....?
A high percentage of Government employees are unemployable, or they would be in the Private sector where the money is.
Just a trip to the DMV, or the Airport is all I need to see, and then to think I will go to some cheap tilt up Medical Facility.....................It's a bad joke.
When people are dying of Lung Cancer from smoking, Tobacco companies should take care of them, when Alcoholics are dying from Liver Cancer let Jack Daniels fix 'em up.
But the Government allows these " drugs" to be legally sold, and then they want us to pay for their continued treatments..........This is stupid, and if these elitists would stop accepting cash from these corporations and hold them responsible for their own causes, and the same goes with the Pharmicuetical corporations, the government wouldn't need to rape the law abiding tax paying citizens to cover their decades of mistakes.
I don't know who employs you, but your Brainwashing could be overcome with a better education. It worked for me.
I was also Brainwashed but I was young and Gung Ho. Once you get fucked by the Veterans Adminstrations " free Health Care ", it becomes quite clear that Government works best with less people. I will let the VA pay for my burial, that's it.

Introducing some Tort reform would reduce health care costs...which will never happen...trial Lawyers have bought the dems...

greed...what program has the government ever given to the "needy" ever worked. It only further enslaves them. I want a smaller, less invasive government....people who work hard to succeed deserve success...and those not willing to work, deserve what they get....and those who do work, deserve not to have it stolen, primarily for the redistribution of wealth, to help those, not willing to work, hence making them (not willing to work) more dependant on the government that will require more money to support those currently depending on it....perpetually helping those not willing to help themselves...so the only solution for them is, more government and more failing social programs that have not nor will ever work.......next.....

again w/jimmy on this one...and to quote myself...

neither social security, nor public education are MANDATORY, although the UN would like the lattler to be, so that everyone gets "strandardized socialization". that sucks too. i retain my rights to NOT be socialized, especially if i can take care of myself still. a world of human autonomatons is not attractive to me.

so-called mandatory anything run by the government effectively takes away my choices over my own lifestyle and health and body, and gives all the power to those that develop these programs to their benefit (and profit).

I can prove over and over again that the ignorance and greed of the AMA and FDA basically killed my mother years ago, and I refuse to buy into the whole sham.

I personally have friends who have cured themselves of cancer and radically reduced the effects of aging and Alzheimers with NO intervention by any insurance company, AMA doctor, or drug company.

I've been reading in recent months about a healthy 80% fruit & veg diet combined with huge dose vitamin injections being an excellent treatment for Cancers, but you'd have to make sure the fruit & veg isn't GM or that high a quantity could be ... erm, sort of bad.

One 'cure' for cancer is...yes indeed...sound...
All cells have a harmonic frequency where they break up.
Much research has been done with re: to simply blowing up bad cells using sound frequencies (a correlate to ultrasound).

Just don't tell the AMA or FDA, or they'll send out the goonsquads to get you.

I have friends that juice every day and look much younger than their age. I've been having smoothies for breakfast for over 10 years, and I can't even remember the last time I got sick.

One friend is a cancer survivor, and the other has her 85 year old mother on juices (raw veg's, herbs, fruit), and she is clear headed and active.

Above all, it's cheaper, and doesn't involve any bureaucratic handouts, nanny programs, insurance scams, etc.
