stardust wrote:Yep thats right. A DIY Monome is way more authentic than a readymade Tenori on.
Um..wut?
they are completely different things. tenori on has an advantage of being self contained and easy to get going on. monome has advantage of being user programmable and open source. they look the same but are as different a say, a workstation synth and a MIDI keyboard.
im sure yamaha could add some other programs in the firmware if they left enough memory. and they dont just abandon it like the FS1R(grr)
RFQwork.com
the site has shops bidding from Europe, Canada, AUS and China as well.(thats just what i saw when i visited) some american shops get kinda pissed off when they get undercut by china.
front panel express wanted a lot more money as well.
lol im a tool addict. i bought a dremel
http://www.dremel.com/en-us/Tools/Pages ... ating+Tool today "because it was the last one"
so i dont need much convincing to buy that

I can't wait to see what you come up with Neutron.
The word Yamaha reeks of consumer.
DIY and 3rd party is definately the way to go.

Thanks Neutron, I'll check it out. I'd definitely be looking for someone in Europe or ideally in the UK. There's the German company Schaeffer that make really nice anodized alu panels like this:-
... but they're quite expensive.
I had one of those deburring tools years ago, but I've got no idea where it is now. At one point all (well most) of my tools were stolen in a hotel carpark in London docklands & I had to replace them all, so I probably just never replaced that item.
You speaking about the dremel has just reminded me that I've got a jewelers pendant drill somewhere that I've been meaning to get set up for ages. It's one of those crazy things like a dentists drill with a foot pedal etc. Yes, I'm a tool addict too...

Brotha' Man Neutron,
Do you know if the ksd app. ( max/msp ) can store a MIDI Phrase sequence for each button on a Monome 64?
I am trying to understand monome a little more before I make a purchase, but this seems like a great little live tool.
Especially if it syncs to BPM's.
That's just one application, this thing seems incredibly versatile.
