Lots of people can sing. Idol would be more interesting for me if it was more that just karaoke. I would watch it if they actually wrote and performed their own stuff.

I'm a little confused about your recent choices Nestor...

which voice - I don't hear any
...instead there's a pretty good miking, compressing, equing, harmonizing, voice doubling, transient designing and autotuning going on
you might be shocked when you (happen to...) hear that 'voice' unprocessed - there's a few moments close to the end that reveal it's pretty thin, just a 'regular' have-sung-in-a-choir kid voice.

As Gary mentioned with the previous candidate:
of course she CAN sing (in technical terms) but there's no expression whatsoever - not her fault, it's a feature of those shows.

the best 'performers' are those who can let go with an absolute and blind faith in post processing.
Whatever sh*t they shout into the mic with closed eyes and please-f*ck-me face expression - the engineer will turn it into nice audio, so all the energy goes into faking the fake personality

I remember a candidate from a German show who just failed on that 'confidence' completely. You could clearly tell by her eyes that she tried to 'adjust' to the monitor mix on critical sections - which ended in almost hickups and insecured her eventually.

She COULD sing as well (or not so well) as all the other candidates, but she just couldn't handle the 'professional' environment.
And yes, she HAD a very interesting voice (considering BOTH vocal and interview mics).

I sometimes really enjoy these shows (on TV), as mentioned there's a lot of post-processing before sending it on air (guess-the-fx-live), and sometimes, when they want to get rid of a candidate, they intentionally spoil the performance by shutting off some of the helpers... it's really mean...

Hey Astroman, I would like to see how you would sing live with all the elements you have imaginarily included in the microphone channel... I am pretty sure that pretty bad... even with the help of them...

Astro, there are no pitch correction, harmonizing, doubling, or transient design as you suggest in these performances, not even half of what you imagine in terms of effects. There is a compressor, an EQ and then a studio reverb, the rest is singing and I doubt very much that you could achieve, with all the effects of the world you want, a good performance.

Anyway people you don’t need to agree with me about anything, I like how these two women sing and that’s my choice, do you think I’m going to change my taste because you get philosophising about life and death? Make it simple... What do you like? Post it here, this will be your best answer I guess.

I can not overlook bad music and a bad arrangement. The singing was not spectacular either. Something has gone horribly wrong in modern culture and I hear it all over the world. It is a similar sound in many countries. What people think is good music I don't get. It's pathetic. The only hope is the internet which is making diverse forms much more available. Unfortunately this probably means less money for artists but the music is more important than the financial welfare of musicians.

I agree with you Brain, I just love their voices, that's all... And I think what I could do in my studio with them, it would be a dream. I like fusion, so the music they sing is far appart from my likes, but I like their voices. Particularly the Carrie Underwood timber is fantastic.

C'mon Nestor, of course that voice was doubled, it's the most simple thing to detect...

I have no intention to change your taste, my own is pretty bad anyway - I like Gwen Stefani (and be it only for the dress she had on in the Don't Speak video) and even some of Kylie Minogue's records

noone in this domain goes on stage without intonation correction - if you want I can post a Sinatra from 53 or a Diana Ross from 68 or a young Millie Jackson, if you long for a 'pure' voice.
You will not find any similiarities to those current performances

anyway, but how could you know that I ruined my voice as a schoolboy in the soccer arena ?

Astro, I can hear very clearly they are “out” of tune in many passages, so... there is not such an effect and voices are not doubled either, I also can hear man.

Perhaps the best way would be for somebody co contact the producers and ask them... but fortunately for me, this is not as important as to spend my life in finding out what they use... I have much better things to do

All I say is that I like their voices, is it so hard to understand?

btw I haven't watched it to finish the first time, just until she starts that ultra long note...
maybe you peek again right at that point. And then you gonna tell me that's a 12 year old girl's vibrato... (it's entirely artificial - Autotune) and right after that point you can even hear the correction's grip
