you only need one midiport.(you can make mulriple connections and that port will carry 16 channels)

In the device setup (under VST multitrack) you have to choose your ASIO driver, in this case it's called Scope Asio.
This will enable you to let Cubase and SFP talk to eachother via the ASIO source and destination modules in your SFP project.
In the Cubase devie setup, under VST connections you can see which ASIO inputs and outputs are available.
In order to have multiple ASIO outputs for instance (to route audio and VST instruments on seperate channels to SFP) you double click on the ASIO source module in SFP and then you can set the amount of channels (the module will expand to accomodate for those).
Now back in the Cubase menu, you can choose "add bus" and then set the ASIO device port to one of the newly created ASIO channels (so the first stereo bus is

1 out 1 Scope (left channel)
2 out 2 Scope (right channel)

and the second is:

3 out 3 Scope
4 out 4 Scope

etc.

You can do the same for inputs if you want to record multiple channels to cubase at the same time.
(I never really do that, but just have a single stereo ASIO destination connected to the mixer outputs)

once you've set up the inputs and outputs in the device setup, you can then select them per channel in the inspector.

i knew about selecting the asio scope driver... i just didn't know i had to "add a bus" in cubase... thanks for taking the time to explain it to me.
