I have tried this and when I use an XTC VST effect while faster than real-time mixdown(ing?) the audio in the end file is distorted...

How would I record it to a stereo track in real-time? Use a different I/O configuration and route the overall bus to a ASIo recordable input?

Record a stereo track in real time in XTC? That can be done with the normal Export Audio mixdown. I do it all the time.

Hi,

I use Cubase and XTC mode. And I also use only real time export all the time. If it's mono, just choose a stereo:)

I noticed that Export Audio mixdown doesn't work perfectly and not always gives an accurate mix. I do it by recording track in real time.
Import both version to the project, invert the phase and listen ...

how are you doing that? i thought the only way was to export audio during realtime mixdown..?
i often (if not all the time..) get something wrong with my mixdowns. sometimes its only 1 note that is missing or played incorrectly, sometimes its another thing. pretty annoying..

I have it in another computer.
Go to VST Connections, and activate on existing buses (both IN and OUT) L merge and R merge instead of for example Pulsar2analog(it depends on what kind of card you have...).
See manual - XTC mode.

d0h.
yes, thats the way one MUST connect everything to be able to do a realtime mixdown in cubase. but my question was more like, how do you record to a outside program instead of doin the realtime mixdown? wich i understood that you were doing? or did i missunderstood you there?

No, I record inside, just choosing card's routings (L/R merge)instead of exporting mix by option of cubase EXPORT AUDIO MIXDOWN.

well, isnt that pretty much the same thing? i may be wrong here. and you mean that record inside cubase sounds better than doing a mixdown?

Yes. I made some test with a big project (a lot of stereo tracks and FXs). I done both versions of the mix, imported them to the project and inverted the phase (one after one)
That's the best and simple way to check authenticity of one, isn't that?

i'm a little bit lost regarding phasing, so i wouldnt know. hope someone can give us some light over this tho?

if the case is like you describe, i will most definetly, record into cubase instead.
