How to set sound card... error- busy!?

the pulsar II does have the ability to substitue my onboard audio correct? i want to use a the csi cubase video i got, while using cubase... but it has my onboard soundcard set. in the control panel-> sound and audio devices-> audio tabs -> sound playback-> audio devices it has my nvidia sound card selected.

when i select the creamware play/rec 1 and try to open any audio it says the sound card is busy bieng used by other software or there is not one present. i know it's there... so i am wondering what software would be using it?

am i not able to have sfp, cubase, and the video running? do i have to close cubase, open the video, watch a chapter, close it, open cubase back up?

i tried to restart my pc, and play audio in wmp before doing anythin or opening anything... and it still says the card is busy?

Hello Crisis

I suppouse there are several variables involved on such bizzare behaviour..., but one thing I would do is disable the onboard audio device from the BIOS first.., just to check your Pulsar II gets properly accessed by the system once it reboot. If that works then you can decide wether to keep it disabled or keeping it active but as a secondary sound device on the device manager.

thanks for the reply snoop. i already did this tho. anyone else? any ideas?

select and use asio drivers in cubase and there should be no problem. the video(using quicktime, right?), should be able to use the wave drivers. you do have a wav source and dest module in your project(at least wav source) hooked up to the mixer, correct?

well... how would i use the cw card as my system audio card... to play audio when i am not in cubase... like if i play doom 3?

make sure that scope is loaded in the background and make sure that a wave source is connected to your card's destination.

so i do have to have sfp open in order to use the board as an actual sound card!? that is lame! there has to be another way... it is is, after all, a soundcard?

you just need to redefine your XTC project, and save that :smile:
XTC is meant to use exactly the card as a 'regular' soundcard, but you need the right project.
At least, in normal SFP mode, you have to run a background project (see manual) to use the 'soundcard'.
Without the software active the card simply doesn't 'exist'.
No XTC on Mac tho, maybe I'm missing the point :smile:

Actually, it's not exactly a 'soundcard' like you say, altho it can act as one. It is necessary to have the SFP software running (if not using XTC) at all times, because, contrary to a normal sound card, which has fixed routing, Scope cards have immensely more powerful and flexible routing, and thus you have to have something to tell the card what to do with all the signals. I find it also highly practical to not have to load any software when I want to tweak sounds, and its way fun to add random effects to songs/movies/games (I guess that part might just be me being weird :razz:.) It can be kind of tweaky with games sometimes, but it works for me most of the time.

So for XTC mode, I don't use it, but here's something to try. First, load up the default XTC project, and add some Wave sources to the project. Add some ASIO channels (double click on the the ASIO device to open the dialog) if needed. Next, set your default soundcard in Windows (or any software you want to use audio with) to Creamware Rec/Play 1 or 2 or whichever one you want to use.

This should let you use audio from any amount (well, 32) of software running at the same time (and Cubase will still play if it only uses ASIO.)

If you are wondering about the default XTC project thingy, it's in SFPAppXTCApp and is named XTCProject.pro.

cool. thanks for the help. i just setup a 24 bit wave source, a direct play thing... forget what exactly it's called, and an analog out. it works great.
