ok,

i am attempting to record the NI Pro52 (or any vst synth for that matter) to a stereo audio track within Cubase @ 24bit/96khz. i recorded 6 bars of midi for the pro52 and then sent (within cubase) the output of pro52 to Bus 2. then Asio24 (in pulsar) out to Asio input to record the audio of the VST to Audio Track 1. after about 1-2 bars i get cracking and pops. I have the same problem with 10 tracks of stereo audio in 44.1/16bit. that seems unreal to me.
Ive talked to people with similar setup getting 15-30 stereo tracks of audio. I'd like to do the same :smile:


i have:

Pulsar 1
933 mhz
Pentium 3
Asus Cuv4x motherboard
rage 128 graphic card (relevant?)
512 mb ram
133mhz bus
win 98se

Pulsar is in slot 1.

can someone help with this problem?
any help would be great!

Do you really need to rec. at 96 kHz ? This could be why you only get half the track count compared to the others.
And there is a much better way to rec a VSTi in Cubase than that. You can stripe it to disk internally in Cubase without going thru Pulsar.
I use Logic so i'm not sure what it's called in Cubase. In Logic is's called bounce and in Protools Bounce to disk, so it should be something similar. RTFM maybe.

Anyway if you solo the pro 52 and then you bounce for six bars, voila there you have it.One advantage that Cubase has over Logic is that it does it in non-real time so there is no CPU overload problem.
So you can work with lower sample rate and polyphony and when you bounce just raise the SR and polyphony and bounce to disk.

i dont 'have' to record @ 96khz, but if i have that option it seems silly not to use it. ill try the things you mentioned. But again the problem is with playback too. Once i have bounced those channels internally, when i play them back (lets say 10 tracks) i get horrible pops & clicks. with a pulsar and 1ghz computer with 512 ram, im running @ 1/2 my capability. ive seen posts on this board where people have far less powerful computers getting 2-30 tracks of audio with fx and no problems.
Id like to do the same.

But for recording internally i think the method you mentioned will work well.

I think its your harddisk.

@4 and 96 Khz asks reaaly mutch i/0 and if u recording 20 tracks at 24 bit and 96 u need a 10,000 rpm scsi disk or better...

i do allot of recording at 24 bit and i use a scsi disk seagate cheetah 10.000 and a adaptec 2940 Uw scsi controller....

It's your disk i/o 4 shure

Enable DMA on your harddisk... Track counts will go from 10 to 40+, at least at 44.1khz
