Massive Scope 4.0 Problem - please read

hello,

i have a realy big problem with the new scope 4.0 software.

ez,

creamware has released a new Scope version.
i have a problem installing this bitch.

everytime i start the installer, the installer crashes!
has anybody else had this problem ?

os: xp
fs: ntfs
hardware: Luna2
aspi: 4.71.2

i have a fresh installed xp partition (with aspi etc.) but the error occours after a few secs when i start the setup.exe.

i have already tried to rename the allkeys.sfk to scope.rgy and copy it to the setup/bin directory.

i hope anybody can help me, this is freaking me out :sad:

does the same thing happen if you install 3.1c?

try to change hyper threading on-off.I had this problem today,after installing of cw driver,reboot,installer starts and computer crashes,so I changed something in bios...try with apic support maybe,maybe ht...hope that helps,it helped me.

if you continue having problems, maybe you should try the cd or redownload or at least unzip the first download again. sometimes those things get corrupted in translation.....

still, after a complete reinstall of the entire system, scope keeps crashing.

this freaks me out

Right click on taskbar and choose 'Task Manager' or simply do Ctrl+Alt+Del (opens taskman under NT os's). Go to the 'Performance' tab and look at the 'CPU Usage History'. Do you see one large graph or two graphs going at the same time? Two graphs would indicated HT is enabled...

i dont have a ht cpu (just a standard 2,4ghz intel)
but i think i know whats the problem is now.
a guy from creamware has told me that the software only runs on setups with a "standard-pc-hal". So, my acpi-hal could be the problem.

I doubt its ACPI that's the problem, although that is the usual suspect around these parts. Usually ACPI causes problems during actual runtime of Scope/SFP with PCI overflows being the result on older, slower systems. Modern systems don't really have that problem, but I believe that disabling ACPI does also happpen to disable HT so its quite likely that's just a standard tech support response for your first call/email.

What drive/directory are you installing FROM? Try unzipping all the setup files to as short a path as possible (ie, D:SFPsetup) as silly paths like C:Documents and SettingsInternetuserDesktopSFPDownloadedfilesInstallSetupfilesblabla can tend to wreak havok with many custom written installers (which Creamware's most certainly is).

Another thought, have you installed the driver? If not then perhaps try a manual install of the driver first in your device manager or when pnp detects the 'generic multimedia device' on login. If you HAVE then perhaps uninstall the driver in device manager, reboot and rather than letting pnp install the driver cancel the prompt and use the SFP installer to do it, assuming it will get that far.

If you want to try changing to standard pc: boot into safe mode, go into the device manager (right click on My Computer & choose 'Manage'), then expand the 'Computer' section, click on the ACPI PC designation and choose 'Update driver'. Select standard PC in its place. I've done it enough now with several XP installs that I have little fear of corruption, but beware it will completely redetect all system devices and peripherals.

Also I believe there's a way to log the install progress, or at least there was about 4 years ago. Perhaps tech support can help you check the install logs and determine at what point the program is bombing.
