1st Submission, AP Remix, In the Dark..

Well after a few days of hell here is the 1st work I have done with my CW set up, this is a sketch of a project I am working on right now that needs to be finished in a few days, but I thought I would share a pre-release version for this contest's mix

I used Pulsar Mixers, Effects, Kickme, PsyQ, Optimaster and rather large mass of VSTi's Powercore & UAD-1 effects..

I gotta say the PsyQ is a nice device but a hellion to tame, I think the vocals sound a but to excited from it, and also the Optimatser seems to take dark areas and bring lite to them, it made parts of the track that were subleties sort of be pronounced, something I did not want, but its cool for now, this is just a sketch so you get the idea

Anyways, here it is, my 1st submission to the Z and the 1st project in work with my CW set up, hope you all enjoy. Ill be sure to post the finall when its finished since I plan to add alot of small synth parts to add to its darkness and ambiance, after all the original was an ambient track that I decided to pump up a little..

Hi there Mr. Pitch.

Wow, this is a very nice song compositionwize, beatiful textures, and big props to the female singer. She sounds very soulful.

The various fx are also very cool, like the reverbsplashed snare, and the moody filtering on the strings.

If I should come with some constructive critism, I would like some more bottom end in the kick, and the vocals could benefit from some stronger compression (LA2A or 1196) for the genre, and a bit 8 khz boost. Actually I would also mix the vocals abit higher in level. In the "telephonesound" part, she almost disappear. The vocal ambience is really perfect, though.

Too I could see a little more variation in the drums, but thats subjective.

But all in all, this song is super. Good luck with the contest.

Thanks for the review, I am a fan of your work

This is a sketch, still need to build up the percussion and work on the mix, PsyQ sort of was a little beast to tame, I am using LA2A's on the vocals, ill boost the telephone vox and add a little beef to the kicks though I think OptiMaster sort of squashed things a little to much for my tastes, but Ill toss that up to the fact I dont know how to work the PsyQ and OptiMaster yet in my 1 hour of work.

Shelley is an amazing singer, I had a blast of fun with this mix becuase I am a huge fan of hers..

Ill repost a new submission once I make those changes!

I liked the drums at first because it was a pattern I didn't recognise... but they did get very repetitive. When they stopped what a relief - and the whole song seemed to come alive with its true mood.

The beautiful intro sounds could have happily survived with no drums at all IMHO. In fact the whole song could move back to a more ambient feel by ditching them altogether and using something more emotional rather than dance-based.

Vocals are superb - absolutely beautiful. Pad sounds too are lovely (what did you use?). I want to turn this song right up to drown in the mood, but those drums keep getting in the way!

Thanks for the review, I hear ya on the drums, the vocalist is prodominantly know for her work as a dance artist while singing for other groups, this song is a remix of a solo album she did, here voice is quite emotional, but I wanted to do a thumping club track hehe.

On the percussion, I hear ya there, the pattern is quite repedative, but I am not a fan of snare drum rolls and the like, I will be trying to add fills through synth sounds to give it more builds and ramps.

When I change the percussion and work a little more on the structure I plan to re-submit the track.

My only problem was with the drum track - seemed too up front for this song.

Wonderful textures and beautiful vocals..... great stuff.
Sorry, not too constructive but really the only thing I think you might consider is some work on the drum track.

Really nice track.
I have to agree with the others about the drum track - too up front and the kik not deep enough.
Vocals are beautiful - reminds me of Sylver or Fragma.
Nice arrangement and composition.

Unfortunately I am unable to do anything serious with this song due to the fact the vocals are from a contest, and I dont feel like being sued anytime in the near future hehe, but I am glad the floor liked it and you enjoyed the track aswell.

It was a contest entry that didnt win, but I had fun making a new song out of it and changing it entirely from its original..

I'd try putting a resonant filter on the high end of the drums with a slow LFO, so that they kind of drift in and out in the top end.

Lots of great potential here.

Very good trakc, maybe kick but I really like front kicks, dont have anything to say, just keep it like this

It sounded really nice on my club's system. The drums were nice and punchy and you could hear the vocals (the two most important things!). I'm going to keep playing it for a while. Hey, can you repost a version that doesn't end cold? I like beats at the end to mix out of, plus it makes the song longer. If not that's cool. I don't know if you are interested in making music for my market or not (nightclubs), but if you are you have a nice touch. The guy posting above me is right. Paul Oakenfold would like your mix. You should try to send it to him, or send him your next project if it has a similar flavor. He might play it! Looking forward to hearing more of your stuff.

Fantastic track!
My only comment would be 'where would you like the focus to be?' If it's the vox they're a little too spread ( try playing with the EQ ranges in PsyQ). If it's the drums, play around with them a bit more. And may be kill the vox effects here and there to add intensity. She has a beautiful voice.

The mood and the beats, the bass and the vocal!

The bass and the beats give the track a feel similar to remixes by Starecase.
