The average age of the band was 14. The drummer was 13. Here is the full pre-production instrumental recording of the band (no vocals). It uses an earlier version of the 2448 mixer (Version 3.01) with the stock eq and compressors found on that mixer. It's all live instruments tracked through a vm200 digital desk straight into pulsar. It is not mastered so the 2 trk level is low. I auxed out 1 reverb though an Ensoniq DP2. The only other external thing I did was run the 2trk through a stereo class A valve pre-amp.
For their age, these guys were really impressive. They were a pleasure to work with too as they were too young to drink!
Cheers,
Stu.

Weekend Of Noise - Mundane
hi stu
i really like the overall drum sound! well balanced! was it a copper snare, or a steel one? btw, the snare you liked in my song was wood...
i'd like to hear the distorted guitar starting at 1:35 a bit more present, compared to the drums. you said, you double tracked the guitar. it was also my intention to do it that way, but the timing of the guitarist was to bad for it...
last but not least, i like the clean guitar sound around 2:50. only critic, sometimes i was not shure if I hear a little click in the left channel.
do you have a finished mix of this track now, with vocals?

Click? You have good ears! The drummer did miss and hit sticks a couple of times.
I'll try and dig up the final version (with vocals) and post it up.
I'm hearing you on the presence at 1:35, but i think it's more a problem of too much compression on the master buss as the balls kind of dips there.
Oh, it was steel snare btw.

Thanks for the comments. I think I was sitting in front of an old Lowry organ practicing "when the saints..." when I was 14.
I like the sound of the kick too. It sounds pretty earthy and not overly clicky as the trend seems to be these days.
The hi-hat sticks out like dogs balls though! But I couldn't really do much about it at the time.
Cheers.
