this is my first recording project, recorded with sfp. cause i've never studied music and it's only a hobby for me, i'd like to have some feedback concerning the overall mix, quality, and of course if you like that kind of music.

btw, it's a new little swiss band, the member are only 20 jears old, and called SideWalkPoets. We recorded 6 songs for a demo cd... if you like to hear more, just ask...

enjoy

This is a much better mix compared to your previous upload. The instruments aren't fighting for space this time. I would like to know more about how you are recording the instruments though. Can you give us some more info about what you are doing?

I'm just curious that's all. For example, it sounds like you have selected a bass preset that has compression on the amp and recorded it. This works but you can here the amp boosting the noise floor of the amp after plucking the string. Assuming I am correct, I would have bypassed the compressor and just captured the performance, possibly adding my own choice of compressor (with more subtle compression) in the recording chain if the performance was too dynamic. For example, I had a really tough time eliminating noise for a bass player of a jazz band for this exact problem. The musician insisted on using her amp so I di'd off her amp and on mixdown used heavy eq and a notch filter at 50Hz. I couldn't gate because her finger picking was very soft. A big help was using Creamware's 31 band EQ and notching at 50Hz. I wish I had kept the original recoding so you could here the difference. It was very astounding. Anyway, you can still here the 50hz buzz if you listen closely.

Stu.

to be honest, i don't remember if the compression was used with the roland cube-30 bass amp... i did the roll of around 80 hz, maybe i have to move it to 60 hz?

PPS I just a had a listen to the mp3. Even at 192kHz and 320kHz, the organ sound is really degraded compared to the original and the horns sound really really metallic. Quite drastic difference really.

You should have heard the original track! The buzz was very loud. Almost on par with the bass itself.
