this is my first recording project, recorded with sfp. cause i've never studied music and it's only a hobby for me, i'd like to have some feedback concerning the overall mix, quality, and of course if you like that kind of music.
btw, it's a new little swiss band, the member are only 20 jears old, and called SideWalkPoets. We recorded 6 songs for a demo cd... and also look at the other songs, subject begins with "SWP..."
enjoy

Had a listen to the 4 tracks.
i don't know much about live stuff but from what i can hear it's all recorded rather nicely and nothing struck me as being wrong or with fault, has a pro sound. You obviously have a nice array of mics as well as good mixing techniques.
Nice singer.
i'm not so in to this style of music but hey.
Keep rollin'

Hi katano,
What a nice song!!! I like the arrangement and the singer very much, very sensitive and moody.
I also think your soundwork is very good, all instruments are very clear EQ spectrumwize.
If I should comment something, it would be the first thing that hit me. The timing of the drummer annoys me, he/she need to work a little. Or maybe the whole band needs some more rehearsing together. Maybe the kickdrum has a little too much "click-sound" for this genre? The bass needs a touch more bottum.
Also I think the guitar which is also in the intro part is too high in volume, when the vocals comes in at the verse.
Good luck with this in the future, I wish you the best, and be sure that this is quality stuff...

1000 thanx for your comments. i totally agree with the timing of the overall band. they play together a half a year ago, a little less practice i think. and it was the first time for the drummer (a nice girl) with midi click...The timing of the drummer annoys me, he/she need to work a little. it's the first mix of this song and of course i'll do some tuning. i'm also not happy with the bass, i think you're right, a bit more bottom would be good...
thanx again

hi stu
thanx again, you're my devoted critic
Snare Miks:
1 Sennheiser e-604 (top)
1 Sennheiser e-604 (bottom) and phase changed in sfp mixer
eq more or less flat... bass roll of around 65 Hz...
just added some verb for the top mik and a little more for the bottom mik (i think the default snare verb setting, nothing special).

additional info "snare sound":
i forgot to say that i used for both miks (top and bottom) a noise gate with attack time 0 and release 450ms
and i used the channel compressor with ratio 5:1. i didn't remember the attack time. if you want to know the complete settings, please ask for. i have to write it down in my studio cause no internet there

Well that'll be it then. Very interesting! It sounds great and for a while I kept thinking to myself "surely that must be a sample"!On 2004-07-08 19:20, katano wrote:
