I wrote this song for a competition, we were given about 10 samples and were only allowed to use those to generated sounds. I didn't use any loops in this song, only single hits.

I'd love to hear some opinions on it

Yes, that was a good start into my day.
The sounds are very sweet and I have the feeling that I heard music from an alien combo while I was sitting in a pub on their home planet.
You have arranged the things very well, did you have won the contest?

I have a contest this weekend too, 72 parts from the band Yello. I can´t wait to download these files and start with the contest this evening.

Well done.

This track certainly deserves a lot of praise! Very original composition and great sounds. Love the tonal and rhythmic shifts, that pretty cool. It sort of sounds like a Gameboy tune on LSD
One of the best tracks I've heard here so far (and that's saying something because there's a lot of great tracks here!).

So...what samples did this start out with? And what did you use to mangle them into this composition?

Well, gee, thanks so much for your comments! This has really got me smiling!!

I love your imagination Chris. An alien combo? Totally, totally cool.

re: "did I win?" Well 'contest' is probably the wrong word because there was no winner, it was more of a 'challenge'. At the moment only one other person has finished their attempt. If you'd like to hear it, you can download it at:
http://81.104.141.206/recognise.mp3
(12mb)

King of Snake: The samples I used can be found at:
http://81.104.141.206/wavs.zip
(7.1mb)
It's about 10 samples, basic stuff like kick, snare, a sinewave and a square wave, a piano and some other bits and bobs.

Most of my mangling was done with STS5000, which I'd recently bought and decided to get to grips with (it's worth the battle). The real time format shifting is really cool! The arrangement was done in Cubase SX. I'm a big fan of distortion and used that to add more complex harmonics to the basic *.wavs.

If anyone here is looking for something to do this weekend, why not have
a go yourself? Would be great to hear some more angles  Don't forget though, *strict* limiting to the *.wavs included as sound sources, but all effects are okay.

Thanks, again, so much for your comments.
