I know how much you guys hate these newbie questions but I promise I've search for an anwser before posting this to no avail.

I'm setting up Cubase SX 1.0 and when I go to "Device Setup" and then "Direct Music" none of my devices are active, and there doesn't seem to be an option to activate them. My soundcard doesn't seem to be listed there either. Any help would be most appricated.

THanks,

Hello & welcome to the Z......I don't think anyone has anything against 'newbies' round here- just the negative attitudes some of them seem to have....anyway, to answer your q:
The sound card itself would probably not appear in Direct music anyway...this is more to do with Window's handling of midi, although if it has built in midi there should be a reference to that.

It sounds like your soundcard (what is it?)may not be installed properly.....in Cubase check in Device Setup/VST multitrack/ASIO driver---have you got any options in there?

Can you see the soundcard in your computer control panel anywhere?....look in sounds, and in device manager

Give us a bit more detail and we'll work it out.......
Cheers

welcome!
In Windows controll panel >> Sound ans Audio devices >> the Hardware TAB >> click on yoursoundcard and hit properties >> Settings
Here you can select numbers of channels you want (eg 8 and 8 )for 8 stereo buses to Cubase from Scope and vice versa.
...and also the number of midi channels you will use.

Scope:
Now you can build a project in Scope with 8 ASIO2 32 source >> STM mixer
(and ASIO2 dest from where you want to record to Cubase. eg mixer, analog IN etc)

Cubase:
Devices >> VST Connections
Add buses (eg eight) in both TAB's
...and save these settings!
Default they show up as IN 1, IN 2 ...
Just chose the right IN and OUT in your Cubase project

Seems a bit of a weird workaround....just right-clicking an ASIO source module in Scope allows you to add up to 64 channels!(in the 64 mods)

arela, the 2 numbers in Device Properties are for Wave and MIDI drivers, ASIO is independent of those.

JenniQ, here's a small checklist:
No Scope drivers listed in Cubase can have different causes.
First: Did you load (or even install) SP or SFP before Cubase?
In SP, Samplerate needs to be locked, ie. not '--' or flickering. Are there any ASIO drivers loaded in SP?
Second: open SX. In Device Setup, select ASIO Scope drivers. These are definately better than the Wave or DirectX drivers.
Third: The above may seem obvious for you. If not: This DSP card is not like any sound card you've seen before. Simple put, it's a bunch of processors with AD/DA which only get a meaning when the SP/SFP OS is loaded, Astroman's reply here. If this sounds strange to you, it's time to grab the manual

Welcome to planetz, hope you'll be enjoying your card soon!
