That's what VAs are made for! hehe. Anyway, here's an old skool sounding 4x4 tune with that disco electro-pop feel. Simple groove, but listen out for badly tuned synths all over the place.
Used a bunch of hummel blue synths
analogue X's say it for robot voices
modIII for kicks
a generic 909 snare sample from sampletank2
Generally, I like the overall saturated feel of the track. Nothing for me to say, but I think I did a good job recreating the way things got saturated back then. (just eq and some overdrive)
I'm still wondering tho, if the kicks should come out more and be in my face, or be laid back a bit as it is. What do you think?
been quite a while.. an electronica piece
Haha!
This sounds very authentic. I almost expected the chick from the Rocksteady crew to introduce her breakdancers at any moment
The bassline is heavy, the beat is groovy (and the kick is right where it should be)
The only thing that seems missing to me is some old skool vocoder voice giving funky instructions like "move your body", "work that booty", "dont, dont, dont stop" or any other such clichéed nonsense.

you should finish this track to something more elaborate (structure, mix especially). The 80's synth gimmick is not loud enough in my opinion (not much, just a little bit), but the sound itself is pretty nice. I would avoid to add another vocoder/robot, for some real voices, but that's just me (apparently).
Were u used to saturate your tapes back then ? hehe, just kidding. it sounds quite modern to me the saturation on the kick.
think sexy, good luck
very good track.

thanx for the listen Mehdi.
well, it's a mix of both ends really.. I mean I was born '79 so 80's was when I was a kid and I don't have real-time composing experience from that era.
Whatever impression I have of the "sound" of that era comes through listening back to tapes.. And the saturated "lossy" feel probably comes from the fact that the tapes had lost some of its magnetic "sheen" halfway through the 90's. (when I started composing, and was old enough to start looking in the past. lol) Of course, this tune specifically refers to the more electro funk orientated material, which I doubt were the mixing technological flagship of the time. (as opposed to the meaty pop tunes of the time)
So it's more like imitating samples of 80's music, put together in a modern dance music context. It's definitely not a concept of my own, but really strange if you sit and think about it. hehe.
But yeah, the piece definitely calls for some more patterns and it sure could use a developing theme.

well in fact i've listened again, and if there is one thing to change is the strange detuned experimental bass. with something more "normal" (i don't know how to explain), it could make it to a record easily. Not sure i would change anything else, except the 80's gimmick should be brighter but that's all...still a nice track.... i just wanted to correct what i said before. i was not awake or something
