Greetings all,

Just curious, exactly what is XTC mode modeled after, VST or DX? I ask because like the title states, will XTC mode run in a host such as Soundforge or Wavelab? Would be nice if it worked in wavelab since it supports bost VST/DX, then you could use things like optimaster as a plug in a mastering chain from the source instead of using it as a direct insert to the main buss on the CW mixer out to a wave recording device.

Any one able to try this or using this method currently? If so please let me knwo how its working out.

Cheers!

Hi,

it is possible to run Wavelab in XTC. I run Cubase at first and then Wavelab. But I think You can't use XTC plu-ins or synths then in Wavelab. Leastwise I have not tried to use XTC plug-ins in Wavelab.

In my opinion it doesn't matter which plug-ins software supports. I think it just has to support asio drivers to work in xtc mode. And if you want to use xtc-plugins, software has to support vst plugins.

Best regards, Igor

Afaik, that is correct.

An exception: Fruityloops has inputs and latency handling problems with XTC devices as it has with UAD, TC etc.,
Fruity it can run in XTC mode, it recognises the ASIO. And it can run XTCi in Direct Mode, but no XTC effects. It works as long as the DSP card doesn't send the audio back to Fruity.

SoundForge has no ASIO afaik, and is ruled out of the XTC competition unless...

How do Sonar people deal with XTC? Does it have ASIO yet? (sorry if I lag a couple of years) Can XTC devices be used in a VST>Dx wrapper?

XTC via VST/DX adapter...on a good day with a following wind (SONAR 3.1.1 here). I've had it working, then they'll stop working with "Not installed correctly" errors.

It'll work for a bit, then next time you restart SONAR, the effects will be screwed up and you might get them working again if you're lucky. Also, whether you're using ASIO or WDM (or MME drivers) in SONAR, I've never been able to get more than one XTC effect working before the sound just goes to pot.

Sound Forge - had it working once, but garbled sound no matter what I tried. After installing 4.0, I tried it again (had XTC working in SONAR); fired up Sound Forge, no XTC GUI. Fired up SONAR again, no XTC GUI. Going to try again, but I'm not too optimistic at this point...

I don't know whether it's SONAR's ASIO implementation, the wrapper or the XTC interface being buggy (I suspect a combination of all 3).

If you don't see a GUI, make sure the right .dev is in the right XTCdevices (sub)folder.

They are, believe me, they are :-) It will work and then literally suddenly stop working (suddenly as in between closing SONAR and reopening SONAR, no other changes) - and it's done this on 2 different machines, so it's not just one being weird.

I think that an XTC file gets corrupted somehow, but still haven't worked out which or how. Sometimes replacing XTC.pro fixes the problem, sometimes it doesn't.

And of course now it's solid as a rock with SONAR this evening...

What I have found (and this is a very sore point at the moment) is that XTC mode won't work properly - you get regular audio glitches - if the Pulsar card is anything other than the master clock. If you set it to slave, whether on an ADAT, SPDIF or word clock, no joy.
