One of my neighbours told us a story after asking her about a dog that had been wondering around our street for about 3 or 4 days. I wanted to know whom this dog belonged to, because it was clear that this female dog was pregnant and close to having its little babies. She told us that somebody stopped his car in the street with a female pregnant dog in his arms and put it onto the floor and was getting ready to leave. My neighbour asked him what was going on, and the guy told her his family and himself didn’t want this dog anymore, cos it was pregnant and was up to have his puppies. She complained against it saying that he couldn’t just leave the poor dog in front of her house and in the street, to what this idiot answered the dog had been in his house to amuse his children, and that this period had finished. She was angry and asked him for how long he have had the god, and while this insensible was leaving said 3 years.
While I was talking with her about the dog, it seemed that it could somehow intuit we were worrying about her… which is amazing… While we were talking, the dog was at about 30 meters, and was watching away, lost. Suddenly, it turns to us and start walking our way. It comes in front of us and I tell my wife: “hey, it seems it was listening our conversation”. Then she would go onto my legs, like asking something… I couldn’t resist and, despite I live in a very small place, not suitable at all to have a dog, I opened the door with the agreement of my wife, and smiling we let the future mother in.
The dog was so sad, that the only thing it would do was to stare at something with a terrible face… and would not eat even the best of foods… I could clearly see she was very sad and kind of daydreaming about its ungrateful owners. It was very obvious to us, that this dog had been mistreated as well, as she was fearful when you did certain movements or wanted to sit at the table to eat, both things were dangerous attitudes for her. Animals are very sensitive and can clearly feel what is going on so fortunately she understood we were not against her.
It was but after two days that she started to feel more comfortable and started showing some life into her face and behaviour. Then she started to eat and with lots of caress on her back, after 4 days she started moving her little tail, as every dog in the world should! We were happy to see her progression.
At about a week, she was running through the house, playing with us, eating “without putting her tail into the legs as she used to do”, and sleeping as a log. She started being sort of a friend to us as well.
We found out a very sensitive, intelligent animal with lots of good things, that had been miserably thrown away by the real animal, the human being.
After two weeks this little female dog now baptised as “Nandy”, gave birth to three absolutely gorgeous puppies… She called us for it and we were sure what was her call all about, the time had come. We said to each other with my wife: I hope we can be near her when this arrive, because a friend of us with experience, as she is a professional and works as a matron, told us Nandy was way to small and her belly way too big for her, that she would need help.
We don’t know a thing about giving birth things, but it seems that instinct works always for those kind of emergencies. We went with her to her specially prepared bed “that she herself prepared with pieces of clothes and other for the occasion”. I thought I had to be careful cos she could be in a threatening mood, as it happens with female dogs usually, when they are pregnant. Nothing farther from the truth… She stared at my face, with an incredible mature watch, and asked me to get near. I got near and put my hands into her belly and she started immediately pushing… It was amazing… The whole thing took two and a half hours. The first came with some difficulties, the second could definitely not come without help, so we actually cut the bag with an special scissor, one of those doctors use in operations, I don’t know the name in English. It was a big one, that’s way it was so difficult… the third one came to the world very fast and in one go, the opposite to the second, and it was the smallest as well, of course.
The experience was amazing… we were moved by the moment, by life, by the power of MOTHERHOOD present in this little animal… it was just awesome to see her instinct working intelligently taking care of everything, even if she was exhaust.
Right now, I can see here through the window, as I write you to, and all the three little puppies are taking some good warm milk from her mother…
But there is a sad story parallel to this as well: a tiny cat, of no more than 3 or maximum 4 weeks of life, was in the street and a big dog was up to eat it, it was a matter of life or death. Well, I got it home too. I thought, it doesn’t matter, we already have some dogs, what the heck, it would not make a big difference and once the cat is well, I’ll search for somebody to take it. Unfortunately, and despite we gave to this little cat medicines, the best cat food we could afford, etc., the animal is dying right now, at the time of writing… It is in a box we have constructed for it, he’s comfortably laying in a little bed my wife did, but some serious illness got him.
A SERIOUS THOUGHT ABOUT THIS:
Those willing to get a pet of any kind, should, at least, have a moment to consider if they are ready for it, and if they are capable of being responsible for this animal. Those bastards that get an animal to thought it away in the streets are not ready to have animals. Is that so difficult to understand such a fucking simple thing as this? Animals are pure essences and don’t deserve any bad treat, don’t deserve to be through away, they are sentient beings as you and me, they can actually be emotional. They DO miss you if you let them down… they DO feel sadness, they DO love!!!
This little cat is very probable dying for the same reason Nandy would have had its puppies in the street, and they would have been eaten by dogs, or just would have died for the cold. It is so unfair.
If you want to have and animal at home, think twice and be sure you are going to be responsible for it, in good and BAD times as well. And if you already have some, please, don’t be you yourself the animal, try to take YOUR place in life, and be a human being!ç!!

That was a very lucky dog to have found you and your wife Nestor.. and I hope things go well with the cat. I think it's symptomatic of the world we live in today.. these episodes occur to teach us something.. hopefully even the fucker who abandoned the dog is feeling some kind of disturbance in his conscience.
With respect, in some countries cats are considered vermin.
And in Australia cats are the primary killers of native animals and birds. They are a huge problem and totally unsuited to the rest of the eco-system.
You're not to know all this from my post of course, but don't assume that because something is cute is furry it is universally loved.
I'm sure Nestor is tough enough to withstand my comment.
EDIT: If not, then Nestor I apologise - no offense intended.

Of course the cats are doing what comes naturally. What else would they be doing ? And it's equally self-evident that people introduced the species into Australia. That doesn't really advance matters.
But lighten up a bit. Next thing you'll be telling me that you object to the industrial farming of meat; pigs that can't support their own weight, and chickens that have their beaks cut off and never leave their cages.

Well yes, I do object.. but I don't expect these practices to stop by me bitching about them on a forum though.. the only reason I replied was to counter some offensive misinformation. I really only think that ignorance and misinformation can be countered by education, and if that makes me a boring fuck who can't lighten up then so be it.On 2004-04-12 09:24, Spirit wrote:

Sure, nice link. I'm vegetarian though and it didn't tell me anything I didn't know (although it was humorously implemented).
And if your post regarding non-universally-loved cute furry mammals was ironic/sarcastic, I apologize.. sarcasm doesn't always work in printed form: it looked to me like you were pretty serious about what you were saying.

As Dark suggests, all the unbalance introduced in Australia was, as usual, a lack of understanding from the part of scientists trying to be more intelligent than nature, which is absurd. Rabbits, cats, ferrets, etc., can not be put to blame for all the disasters in Australia, but human beings, and all their criminal interests in money, power and personal importance. Is it so difficult to understand that nature IS intelligent in itself? Why to transform something perfect?
Don’t worry Spirit, I can understand a joke. Sarcasm can sometimes be good in the sense that you separate yourself from hard happenings and so avoiding identifying yourself too much, and this is always a good thing, or you may get crazy with sorrow in this world. BTW: fantastic flash animation, I really liked and appreciated the idea of using the Matrix, and of course totally support the philosophy behind it.
I strongly believe that:
Nobody will ever be wiser than nature; this is a utopia. The sole idea shows how little intelligence human beings in power can have. Science is nothing but processes of attached values, gradations and rules, nobody has created those rules, they have only been discovered and they are nothing but a tiny amount of rules of the infinite that surrounds us. Something is radically clear to me: knowledge is not consciousness. Without consciousness, so far, we have been able to witness knowledge can be rather evil instead of something positive and constructive if not used properly. I guess that’s why Einstein said: “Before beings scientists we have to become human beings”. If nature would have been left alone, with no transformation or let say hard manipulation, we would have had a much better world today, but everything is already quite disturbed and we are going to unfortunately suffer the consequences in the following 30 years through all sorts of complications and natural disasters, as forecasted by those scientists that are in the other side of the coin. Nature will try to clean itself once and over and over again as an intelligent organism that is.
Earth, water and air are polluted everywhere, native species are disappearing fast; the unbalance is a titanic one! I don’t know how we are going to stop this because the consumer market generated 100 years ago, today stronger than ever, is the foundation of our lives and so, cannot be stopped, cos stopping it means starvation, economical world devastation and interminable wars of everybody against everybody else. We, people writhing and reading right now, all are going to die after a few years as natural, but new generations will still be here, what they will do so, to keep alive? I don’t know.
