SP 4.0 and "older" cards information

Hi there,

i phoned with creamware today and asked about the categories and wich cards will get into what category...

Well, it is fact that the categories will only applied with the new cards.

Everyone who owns already a pulsar I/II, Powerpulsar, Scope/SP etc. will keep his old software equipment with no new additions but the SP 4.0 with the bugfixes and whatever is new (drivers etc). In other words. We don't get the Synth and Sampler Pack/ Mix and master Pack now for free or any other software. The website will be updated the next time to make that more clear.

True, its sad not to get the Packs for free but on the other hand dont forget that Creamware is just out of the insolvence and cannot afford it to give these packs worth over 1000 Euro just away for the already registered owners of creamware cards.

For the SCOPE/SDK i got also some Informations:
The terms and conditions are still in work for releasing it freely for personal purposes. So the release is still tba but in ther near future

Well... it seems to be the end of the dream.. but there are some fixes and improvements in SP4.0 i think. So nothing really new for the old users but still some useful things for more stability (well the 3.1C is actually also stable as a rock).
I dont think its a fake update and the old users are not forgotten but they won't be featured as many (also myself) ppl dreamt of. I still looking forward to Creamware and its products..
And one bad news to follow i forgot in my post:
ATM the prices of the synth/mix/packs and the individual upgrades will not be lowered... perhaps in future though...

the development kit
for free
maybe for the ALL dsp's users
is the best way
not only for the 14 15 owns

ya, seems like an inevitable choice in a time like this. I would have wished for updates and new features for SFP 4, but perhaps now is a good time CW can sit back and work hard on perfecting one OS that'll work for a long time. (instead of simply building a new one that "looks" new with new features, etc.) I'd rather have a solid OS with few features than a bloated os.

About the freebie packages, I think it's fair enough that we get what we paid for. It's only natural that new users get better deals, to give non-users motivation to start using SFP. People who already have SFP aren't high priority for now, which I think is a logical choice given the company's situation.

People who already use SFP have already climbed the upgrade ladder to a certain point, which means we only have a certain amount of plugins we can buy before all plugins have been bought. (making us less profitable) New users have much more devices they can potentially buy, making them more profitable for CW. Sounds kinda harsh, but that's one very good reason why CW would want to please potential newbie users.

Well, at least we get the SDK FOR FREE, that's nothing to sneeze at!

Concerning the SDK, I'am a little afraid about the " for personal purposes " part, does that mean no sharing those freebies with others ?

I hope this is not the plan, if so I barely see the benefit of the free SDK !

I still think SFP includes modII and the STS4000, so most of you are better of anyway.

NEW in Version 4.0

· now includes a plug-in pack with 35 high-quality effects

· now includes the STS-4000 sampler

· now includes the Modular II synthesizer

Hi...

I can't see the issue everyone's talking about.

The update to SFP 4 is free, you don't get new devices but current will be kept up-to-date. Just like CW's always done, I wonder for how long some people been using this platform. So nothing new on their update policy.

Also, I'm looking forward to see reasons why one would expect a completely new OS from a company that just recovered from insolvency. The new OS is just a commercial move, a simplification of the platform. I didn't expect anything more.

And YES, we're getting DP!! Looking forward to start creating my own tools etc. If only it made developpers a bit more respected, cos too many people think it's all so easy.

I think most DP's around are in private use in studio's making their own gear and tools, and only a minority releases some of that to the public. If only we had a clue what was going on in those labs

hmmm about SFP 4, don't forget that the version 4 of SFP was already well underway before the insolvency and was supposed to be released in october 2003. I will therefore expect there are some improvements in the new version!

I hope there are some fixes in the new 4.0 version. There are some very annoying bugs that I hope they have addressed.

3.1c is not without its hickups (I would not call it rock solid).

I think, it'll be rather / very hard on my front if I take the plunge ( so tempting ).

But if we can't expand the genetic pool of freebies ... no real benefit for CWA and us IMHO.

In that case, it is probably worth it to pay a little more and get a new card with one of the packs included (you get a pack and more DSP!)

So existing customers don't get the software packs for free - it sounded odd from a marketing point of view anyways. I'm expecting (or at least hoping for) bug fixes in 4.0. The problem with MIDI sychronizing with Cubase, how about those stuck notes with the virtual synths, and especially having at least one sampler - I don't care if it's 2000, 3000, 4000 - that is stable and has more logical multi-out assignments.

In case of the SDK Creamware couldn't tell me that much at the phone because they are still working with the terms and conditions with NDA... So we can still be curious what's the final condition to achieve the SDK. I also asked about publishing free devices but as i said they couldn't answer. We have to wait until the process is finished and getting informed. There will be an information mail for all registered users.

Also the Download of the SP4.0 should be up not later than in 14 days (i hope earlier)... so keep patient.

Well.. this sounds more like reality. It's just a cräp that we got informed a bit different way from a person whom word could be considered as official. Perhaps we just misunderstood. Anyway I own already the plugins I mostly need, so keeping my feet down. I hope they don't change their minds what comes to Mod III and STS-4000.
Perhaps it's now a good time to buy new hardware then, who can afford it.
