Unfortunately that's a major problem with several sendings: you just can't use these to demonstrate the soundquality of the products.

i think he was speaking about my demos!

i think the requirements fortune told us are quite obvious. Especially basic mastering is something we should not forget. it's a one time opportunity on a site to show the capabiliteit of a specific synth.

personally i love melodic soundexamples. they can show the potential of a specific synth quite well.

I;m confused about the mastering. Are we to compose the demo's using just the capabilities of the synth (with basic effects) or should we apply mastering (ie. eq, compression) as well? That would sort of defeat the purpose of a demo wouldn't it?

In my experience, synth demo's are generally unmastered.

Hi,

Mastering in this context means to achieve the best possible sound and a normalized file so there is an optimum of volume and dynamic achieved. Many files were simply too faint or too dim lacking dynamic and punch that could be there. Obviously the recordinglevel had been set too low and no normalizing or a bit dynamic-processing had been done. On the other hand this processing can be expected as obvious.

Personaly I'd prefer to see demo's first of all showing clean short synth lines instead of medly like 'songs'.
What's important specially with soft synths is: how will behave the oscillators when the filters cut off the frequencies till the bottem? does the sound disappears too soon, how much power will it keep in the low deep.
Second, what's the pressure of a simple synth line with note triggered filtering, does the sound seem to be generated in front of the speakers, can you hear the clicks of a fast envelop assigned to a filter cutoff, etc.
I prefer listen to a streight oscillator, sounding as clear as possible, the music I prefer making by my self

I always had a mad laugh about those terrible geniously constructed demo's in synths and drumcomputers.
Just my opinion, I didn't post a demo because I didn't use CWA synths, tho this might change soon.

Mine for Minimax

I tried to cover what I could have done with the Mini so far.

Could be enhanced and depends of tastes regarding the presets rapid fire style but I know this does it for me because it shows me the character and range of a synth.

My Flexor one begins with a nasty glitchy / scratchy mayhem to make people comfortable at once !

And it also clearly says first : this is a nasty experimental beast ... among other.

I noticed I had some waveforms cycles clipped but not decapitated at times in some of my demos ... but only for a fraction of a nanosecond ( sshhhh ! )

nice sounds on the minimax demo, but I think this will fall under the "stepping trough presets" category that Fortune describes.

Thanks King of Snake, it's indeed stepping through the presets and ... it has been submitted since a week.

But I wouldn't change it even if I had the opportunity to do so : it's the kind of demo that does it for me, maybe for many and certainly not for everybody.
I hope they have enough place on their server to put several approaches like 3 - 4 demos of 1- 2 min for each devices so that everyone can find his own.

Wow, a lot of cool sounds on the demo! Obviously your demo is quite focused on showing off synth sounds.

I think it'd be good to have both approaches on the Web site -- some companies do that. One demo for bizarre sounds, one demo for musical context. Why not include both?

Don't worry about that long profile. The way it is presented now is temporarily. in the near future it will be a more database-like style where everybody will have his own page to be selected from a kind of linklist.
That's the way I've planned it to be.

Concerning Lightwave / Prisma, run out of time, I didn't try / tweak them that much since I put them in the old devices box too soon ; they really surprised me while making the demos !

Prodyssey and Minimax were easier since I begin to know them but still very hard since I had to try to cut down the fat and redundant constantly : many demos started in the 15 min range or more to be thinned later ... many reorders of slices ... lots of time spend for some minutes of demos ... it's surely some kind of a job ... duh !

Flexor, alien sounds, infinite possibilities, awesome fast timbres shifts all the time, well I tried to reflect this ... I tried.

For FX demos, the dry / wet effect will do it for me, like the demos limitations : please come back !!

At Access for their overhyped Virus they have a lot of various demos types, I hope you'll be able to offer as much and better than them !

An annual contest maybe ?
