Hi

Found someone who is using Pulsar2 with UAD-1
who posted this review in a Logic-forum

Subject: Re: [LUG] OT: UAD-1 DSP card (a review)

We have a UAD-1 card running along a PULSAR2 in Logic and it works pretty
good.

You can't add an UAD-1 plugin when Logic is playing, cause then the plugin
starts to crackle.

And you have to compensate for the latency in Logic yourself.
90.7ms @ 44.1kHz for every plugin you add. But that is suppose to be fixed
in Logic 4.73...

When they have 100% working drivers and latency compensation in Logic, the
UAD-1 card along with a good soundcard can be a real ProTools Killer.

It has the processing power of 2,5 MixPlus at a fration of the price.

The sound of the LA-2A limiter is just fabolous. They have even modeled the
transformers (and tubes) in the audio-path making it possible to just insert
the LA-2A without doing any compression, and it sweetens the sound. Just
like the real hardware unit does...read a post in the Nuendo-forum from a
guy that actually have owned two Teletronix LA-2A for over twenty years and
he was just amazed by the plugin cause according to him he couldn't tell
tell them apart.
Add a LA-2A in limiter-mode on vocals and you get that perfect
compression...all the time...
You can add it on a whole mix and it just blend things togeather perfectly.
It makes the snare sound just fabolous, adding punch and low-end.

The 1176 plugin is also nice. It's a really fast compressor and it does the
job well. Even if I prefer the LA-2A in most cases, the 1176 is better if
you want really really heavy compression...
It adds low-end when doing heavy compression, just like a real compressor
does, and I haven't felt that when working with other compressor-plugins...
It also makes that dark click-noise in the transients when doing heavy
compression...just like a real compressor does...

We have tried the Bombfactory plugins of the LA-2A and 1176LN and they sound
really flat and dull compared to the UAD-1 plugins...and that's not so
strange cause the UAD-1 plugins uses about three times more processing
power...

The EQ also sound very good. It even has an analog feeling when you tweak it
...
If you use a high Q-value it starts ringing in the transients...just like an
analog eq does...
Compared to Waves Renaissance EQ it has a much firmer low-end, adding ALOT
of bass without sounding swampy. Overall it keeps the transients without
adding almost any distortion, which you can't say about REQ or FatEQ.
And when you add a couple of dB it doesn't raise the overall level as much
as other plugins do...
I still like the treble of the REQ, it has a certain sound to it, but the
UAD-1 EQ can add more treble without trashing the transients or sound harsh.
So they're both useful.

The RealVerb Pro is pretty cool, with all it's parameters and
wall-materials. It doesn't sound as good as our Quantec Yardstick
reverbunit, but compared to other plugins like Waves Trueverb and Logic
Platinum Verb, it's really good.

Haven't got it confirmed but according to some dealers papers that we've
read, the UAD-1 plugins uses double precision floatpoint calculation, which
would mean 64 bit float...and that might explain why the eq sound so good...
And it uses a dither when going from floatpoint to fixed 24 bit...which to
my knowledge no other plugins does...they just truncate, let's say, a 48 bit
signal down to 24 bit...and according to Universial Audio it's better to
dither down to 24 bit...

All in all, the UAD-1 it's a damn good soundcard...just getting hold of the
LA-2A plugin is worth the money...any day...cause it totally blows your
mind...
