I hate VST. What about fruity loops ?
Love Pulsar. Love Soundforge. Hate VST.
Does anyone use Pulsar with Fruity Loops ? Since I mainly sample stuff into Soundforge, then drop the audio into VST I don't think there should be much of a problem. The only thing I'm concerned about is whether it's possible to play a "real-time" track over the top from Pulsar.
Can Fruity Loops actually sample incoming audio from Pulsar?
Any advice or links much appreciated.
cheers,
Spirit

Yeah, your right Air_Appolo, no Asio in Fruityloops, not even working midi, but Spirit, if you allready have all your sounds ready, and like to work that way, Fruityloops is an inspiring tools. It's pretty good at trying all sorts of riffs, and arrangement. The playlist is well done, and, since it's using directx, the latency is horrible (about 60ms with luck).
I use fruityloops sometimes to compose drums loops and bass riffs, since, at first it was kinda beatbox on PC. Now it evolved with 'sound generator' and pseudo-synth, but cannot compare at all to pulsar synth for sure.
But don't even dream of recording whatever in this, nor playing any midi in realtime, even if it's supposed to have a new midi implementation in 3.02, it's still not working in a satifactory manner.
But all n all, it is coOl to have, and play with this, it like Acid + and old tracker on steroid. You'll have fun with this.

yeah, fruity was a cool drum machine back in the day, but they went the totally wrong way in turning it into a 'pseudo sequencer'
IMHO they should have made it a VSTi.
acid sounds to me to be yer best bet. . . i use to work in acid a lot until i found it limiting and moved up to a sequencer proper. you can record audio direct, cut/edit the sample, and sequence it, all in the same prog . . . sounds like all you need. it is pretty cheap to boot.
you could get the sts3000, record samples in it (it is a sampler ya know!), and use cubase for midi, cuz ya already got it . . .

Hi Spirit, sorry I don't have any info for you regarding Fruity Loops, but I just thought I'd lend you some support in light of certain misguided comments relating to your working methods. It's amazing isn't it, that with all the freedom that this technology has allowed us, that there are still people who are so dogmatic about how it should be used?! I'm sure everyone on this forum, knows of an act that has used technological and conventional instruments in ways other than those prescribed by the masses, and as a result have achieved some truly amazing results. Further, I don't think this has resulted in them being branded amaturish. Use whatever you want, how ever you want - it's the end result that counts.
Thanks everyone. That's just what I wanted to know. I ended up downloading the FruityLoops demo and going a bit crazy trying to get it to really perform. I've been down the Acid path and found it too limiting and thought FL might be better. Oh well...
And just FYI the reason I don't like using VST is that I'm doing a lot of on-order loops - for a couple of techno outfits I know and for low-bandwidth Flash websites. That means reasonably simple stand-alone loops. Usually two or three devices in Pulsar are enough (ModV2 with step sequencer), but they're too big to run simultaneously. That means two or three samples in Soundforge. But when all I want to do is stitch together three wavs and maybe add a couple of "live" notes on top do I really want to go into VST ? Nope. I want something simple.
This "amateurish" and laugh-inducing procedure earns me money. Yes, people pay me government-issue dollars to operate in this ridiculous way.
Thanks for your support Kurosawa. I didn't think that at Planet Z I'd ever feel I'd have to justify what I'm doing or how I'm doing it.....

ok, so you guys think for minute that someone with perspective would spend large amount of money on a card and not use it properly? It's like buying a Lambourgini engine for a russian "Lada" car.
I only tried to give the poor guy some perpective on his equipment and his needs....
Btw, I already tipped him on "Orion". at least it got MIDI I think...
Air_PoLLo,

3.1.1 fruity
Pulsar 2.04a or SP 2.06 doesn't matter even Luna soft will work.
In fruity load a midi track and make sure that you choose a correct Pulsar midi out port.
then now once you get MIDI working, each midi track has 8 pages of 8knobs and a fader which you can configure to run the synths etc in Pulsar. I do this all the time sometimes you have to change to OS mode in Pulsar before you can assign MIDI from Fruity to the knobs and such. Hell you can even name them all... It works and it's stable *once* you get it working.Other then that the *only* other thing Fruity needs is 32 outs
then life would be dandy .
PS in a sync situation you will have to make sure you open the MASTER soft first ....
Oh BTW even works with XTC soft
Cheers

FruityLoops is most intuitive soft for me to all stuff that calls for patern seq.
there are roads that you travel faster in Lada than in Lamborghini, btw
esp. here in Poland.
for midi Cakewalk was always on top of the list for me. here Cake 8 Express was on cover disk for some mag. i haven't manage to use audio in Cake with Pulsar. Pulsar loves ASIO.
you could also try N-track, which is has very cool price/features ratio and is updated very often.
obvious replacement for Cubase is Nuendo. you can do everything faster and easier there.
pricey tho.

Well, i was unable to do that, the midi isn't sending anything to pulsar.
In fruity load a midi track and make sure that you choose a correct Pulsar midi out port.
Are you mapping pulsar midi in to sequencer 1 in, then in fruity, should i set to port to 1? This is it? Why it doesn't work here! Well, i'll try again, if you say it work, and you're using it, it should then work...
Thanks anyway, i'll let you know if i can make it work. Was so convinced it didn't work, that maybe i overlooked some settings.

Just to give you my 6 cents, the reason you´re being a wee bit flamed here, is not because you´re asking about a certein software but cause you´re flaming another one (VST). Loads of people work with this one and is does a good job, specially if one wants to record live music (audio or midi) and as a professional one gets a little cross if somebody´s message is sort of "I don´t record, I just sample, so recording gear is sh...te, cause I don´t know and don´t even want to know how to use it!"
Cheers, brother, and peace.
