Fortunately I had recorded just before, to test it, an MP3 of my song, but it is full of clicks and crackles… Please, forget the clicks and get to the music, there’s nothing I can do about it now. Of course, I put it through a declicker but it is not enough…

Well, now the positive points: I’ve never heard anything of better sounding quality coming from my hands and made in my computer (unfortunately you will not appreciate it here), in this sense I’m quite happy with the results. The mastering was very challenging due to the different levels and ways of playing of the participants, i.e. the different samples included in the project: Chris Werner, John Cooper, Ken Suguro and myself. I fixed this problem with much automation, SX is great for this.

I have also started learning XTC  , an interesting mode, particularly for mastering, it is handy for it cos you can do everything in Cubase without moving much and in a single screen and Creamweare plugins are just superior in sound for some special tasks.

The Pulsar Plugins used were: Final Lisa, Delay S and PT 2028 S Demo. I have to say that Final Lisa did an excellent job it really is quite precise for mastering, it is my first time using it as a mastering tool. The Delay S was used in real time while recording the files to Wavelab, playing with it in some passages to double the rhythm of the drum, it was fun and an excellent effect.
I've never used a Delay for Mastering, it's wild to me... I have tried long ago Paul Tanty’s reverbs, but I realise I did not pay enough attention “WHAT A REVERB” they are fantastic. (Again, I hope you can appreciate it even with all these clicks)

Having worked and so heard the samples of Ken, John and Chris, I have to say they are very different kind of composers. Ken is solid and decided while Chris is volatile and meditative. John has a deeper sense of expression, it is much articulated than Ken and Chris, while being soft at first sight, but firm in conviction. Chris’s drums were fantastic I have to say, very, very well recorded. General: I particularly liked the John’s deep and melancholic bass, two of the rythms drums offered by Chris, and the melodic line of Ken, which is extremely effective and addictive.

When I started, I was quite lost cos so different backgrounds and styles were difficult to match, so it took me about two hours to get a path to walk, then things started to flow naturally, and the form of the song came up. Then I started to amuse myself with some loops created with a mass of carefully selected samples. I’ve never composed out of loops, and had neither composed with other people’s loops, so it was VERY interesting, and fun. I’ve learned so much with this…

As I said, when finishing, just before mastering, I was very happy wiht it all, it sounded extremely well and I quite like the music I came up with, too.

I hope you have some fun listening to this experiment. Sorry for the quality of this MP3 nevertheless.

Thanks to all the participants and I hope you have had so much fun and learning as I did.

Cheers.

Nice intro. You've got a lot of stuff happening in this track, but it's all very well placed, in the "no instruments are fighting to be heard" kind'a'way - hope you get what I mean. Everything is very well played. I'm no dancer but this track made me want to be
Only down comment would be it sounds a bit squashed - but this could be because of the mp3 incoding I guess.
I'm really not good at this reviewing stuff, but I hope you can use it for something
Keep it commin'

best thing you've posted here (to me) as far as I can remember from your previous stuff
Nice grungy sound, nice sample cutting everywhere
Only the sound of the drums, they lost too much punch to my taste.
New approach--->new music!
cheerz

nice sort of cut&paste sound, sort of reminded me of something Basement Jaxx might do. It does sound like there are things clipping with digital distortion, but maybe this is just in some of the sounds.
Overall, very nice and exciting song, well done!

Cheers Bezare  Yea... unfortunately it sounds pretty bad, as I explained, I had a problem with SX, got a black screen, the system rebooted by itself and when it was back, well... I don't have time as doing it again, unfortunately.

Your comments are all I can expect to it, the sound is horrible, just can pay attention to the music. Thanks

I'm glad you like it  I agree with you about the drums. But they were perfect before the crash... Interesting for me you liked it and so it as something new. Indeed, for me it is completely new.

Cheers King! No, it's no distortion... you all will notice the sound is BAD, because the MP3 I could get was bad, then the song was dammaged and "hasta la vista baby"...

I can tell you it was the best sounding song I've ever mixed in my life, i whis you could hear it as it was.

This sure is a super track - I hope you get all the parts (and courage) together one day and redo it...

Thanks you gusy for the nice encouragment  Well, I will redo the song, as I can see many like it, so I consider it is perhaps worth the effort. I cannot right now, I will be very busy searching for some job and so, after that, I will be back with this track and will redo, as close as posible, to the original. There are about 40 tiny files lost, so it's difficult to rebuild it exactly, but I'll try to rebuld it anyway when I have so time left.

BTW: I used VST Declicker, and it worked very well removing the clicks, they were easly 500...

Nice everytime to the front going remix.
You´ve done much work on the samples, haven´t you?
It´s fascinating how different our tracks are. Yours is faster and more dancy and of course rock. My is more moody and relaxed.
Two different tracks from two different people with the same resources, great.
You should search the internet for remix contest, tere are always some running, it is a good way to test your skill, have the possibility to remix great stuff and to win something like hard or software or money.
Mostly, when you win you can produce your track to a final version in a prof studio with profs help. My best place was #12 out of over 900 participants.
Anyway, a nice remix and another nice present for Z.
Strange what was giong on with the clicks, it could be a bit quantisation error?
In what bit resolution you´ve worked and when it was higer than 16bit did you dithered the track down to 16bit?
When not, you´ll get those quantisation error clicks like playing clawed CD.
Let´s see with what John and hopefully Ken and Neutron will come up.

We´ve forget one thing though.

Wow, what a great experience to hear the same samples I've been focussed on for the past week, re-interpreted in such a mind-bogglingly different style!!

I love the opening. It sounds like a 70's classic rock ballad, and then suddenly turns
into a 90's hyper-ballad  And I like your cut&paste work starting at 4:10 on, you really came up with some different sounding stuff.

And it's funny, despite the obviously pre-arranged quality of it, it all kind of sounds like it's recorded live at a big rock concert. Something about your guitar work and those Tanti verbs

I too experienced some frustrations with SX. I was really learning SX during this project, and using it in ways I've never used a sequencer (really tight focussed audio part slicing/editing). I crashed SX twice, and lost quite a bit of work. After the first crash, I turned on "auto-backup" and "5 minute auto-save", and after the 2nd crash, I was able to open the backup, and retrieve a bit of work. Frustrating tho. In general, however, I found that I really like working in SX.

Thanks again Nestor for your good vibes and motivations to get this project going.

Cheers,
-John
