Hello dear Pulsarians

I just want to announce you my new adventure that has taken many years to come true at last, after too much saving and skimp on things from weekend parties to a second hand car (I have a bike now)..and may be a girlfriend.... here it is: My new studio.. which thanks to all the help I've got on this forum through all these years I've felt confident enough to build. Yes like many things in life NOTHING is 100% sure but what the heck!!... I hope with time this studio could help me with the bills and who knows?.. make a living out of it.

Thanks a lot to all of you for your patience and helpfull advices!!!.. HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL!!!!

I hope you don't have problems with the pics.. if so .. let me know please.

Looks very nice! Congratulations!
I would advise to put some dampening material in the microphone booth though, some rugs on the wall or some furniture. Makes it more comfortable and cosy as well

Thanks!

Absolutely right King of Snake!... I still have to put some rugs there and also I have been gathering all the materials so I can make absorbing panels that I can put as precise divisions inside the whole recording room.

Hi snoopy4ever
Looks really great... no excuses now for not recording some great material, it must be inspiring to have a nice space to make music in.

It looks great -- very inspiring! But you definitely need some soundproofing foam unless you want the "ambiance" sound. Have fun in your new digs!

Thank you guys!.... It was suppoused to be 8-10 weeks but it took like 6 months to finalize. I had to work with the concrete mixing, painting, the floor sanding and painting, the metalic door, you name it. I was really tired and needed to stay at home like a week after that...hehe (No pain no gain). Now I'm an expert in materials and construction .

So again.. thanks for you comments.. I really appreciate your help on this.

Nice job! I also like that wood on the floor. What kind of wood is that? Looks nice.

What kind of contruction techniques did you use on the walls and such? Would like to hear about that.

Enjoy! Now you can go get a girlfriend

Yes, all you have to do is build a jacuzzi in the vocal booth and invite some cute singers over for a "session"

"If you build it they will come"
indeed!

Thanks Krizrox.

I'm glad you liked the wood floor..., it's a special kind (variation) of Teca wood that is grown here in Costa Rica (I guess the english word for that wood is Teek), where the soil ph and the weather helps it to get nice colors from whites, creams, pinks and golden reds, but of course it's important to spend time evaluating the wood and walking to choose the best, the floor is resting on top of a screwed structure of wood and a special latex to absorb vibrations. The whole studio was builded from cero on a second floor (which did not existed before) on my house, so I had to think of everything, from earthquakes (we can have nice 7 or 8 richter ones every 5 to 10 years) to neighbourhood noise and vibrations, so the structure used a lot of steel and special concrete, it was designed with special bases undeground as they use in buildings , each base is allmost 2 meters deep in the ground (thanks God I have a rock solid ground there) and they are 1.25 square meters wide per 1 meter deep, each base is connected (also underground) with the other pilar's bases by heavy columns (each column has 5 steel bars inside (2 inches thick) the concrete. The floor is also from concrete pieces we put toghether and covered with more concrete so it became about 50cms thick.
The walls are all from blocks, wich we filled inside with special mix of granite, sand and concrete, therefore every wall has a huge mass added to it (mass helps stop outside noise as well inside's). That's the main structure, then we builded the inner walls, wich are drywall but between the drywall and the concrete walls there is a lot of isolation (fiber), the ceiling is also made of drywall but in two layers, the first layer is the one you see there shaped as soft curves and then there is a layer of fiber, and then there is another layer of drywall covered with a special coating to seal everything on top of it. The roof is also filled with isolation fiber, with the airco ducts from a special independent system for the recording room (that one is fine tuned to work very silent), the control room has another airco (much cheaper of course), the doors were custom made both the room's door (heavy steel and two sets of sealers) and the outside one (safety in mind). There is also a complete shower and toilet room with a VERY noisy air extractor ..(on purpose.. go figure why)..

The double glass window, the lights divided in 3 groups so you can dimmer to different light ambiences.. the electrical system is a diferent circuit in each room.

The control room is sound isolated and on top of it there is a small warehouse where I can put a lot of boxes and stuff heheh, that also helps to reduce ouside noise...

Well I guess that's all Krizrox, hope this helps to see how crazy I was when I decided to build the thing..hehehe.

cheers

Snoopy

now that reads impressive ! A true masterpiece - obviously turned you into a craftsman overnite

I don't see probs with the girls, the control room even seems eqipped with something like a bed in the back

The only thing I'd check in advance is the dimming system. Those can produce severe electrical emissions (depending on construction) transmitted over air.
Use a mic pre with full throttle volume and move the dimmers to check if something get's noticable.

cheers and once again: great job ! Tom

Wow, that's very impressive indeed. I didn't realise you actually built the whole structure yourself too. Way to go!
