I had no trouble with this when I ran W98se. Ever since I installed XP midi files won't play through Winamp or Windows Media player (although there is a progress, no signal; seems to get through to their destinations).

Winamp tells me "This function is not supported. Use the Capabilities function to determine which functions and messages the driver supports". Where is the Capabilities function? I just can't find it. Which driver? SFP?

Heeeeelp!

I think I remember something about checking a box for midi-playing-capabilities when installing WinAmp. Try to reinstall it!

Hi Thomas.

I did reinstall Winamp full before posting my question here. Winamp lite does not read MIDI.

I have Sibelius 3 and Kontakt player installed for this transcription job I got and MIDI is not being transmitted through that program as well...Same error message as in Winamp(see my first post).

Thanks for any help

OK - If I check the WinAmp Preferences under Options, then I've got a Midi-Plugin installed under PlugIns-Input called "Nullsoft MidiPlayer 3.01". When "Input" is highlighted there's an option to get more plugins in the lower right corner. - Try that!

If you still can't make it work, I could mail you my version of Winamp - if you are interested.

Start menu>control panel>Sounds and Audio devices

Go into the "Audio" tab and set the "Midi music playback" Default device: to be "Microsoft GS Wavetable SW Synth"

its most likely set to one of the CW cards atm.

incidentally, winamp5 rocks and is almost out http://fileforum.betanews.com/detail.ph ... 1066336873

(winamp5 = winamp2 engine + winamp3 support = very similar to the 2.x load times & ram usage)

Thanks Valis. The audio tab thing did it although I did not have the GS Wavetable option since I switched that off in WIn.ini. Also I installed Winamp 5 because the MIDIs would only play through WMP( I still got a "no drivers installed" error with Winamp 2.91).

Everything is back to normal!

I Love this place!
