It´s called `Scientist´ and every time and new day I´ve had an idea or experiment around, I´ve created a new sub-folder called `Day 1..2..3..´ etc.

Well, Neil and I restart our collaboration now and it´s time to upload some results from lonely days of a scientist.

Here is `Day 70´.

What you think?

My thanks goes to Noah for his great mod3 patch Automatic Space Generator, the cause of this track.

Wow!

Atmosphere!

This could maybe be a referance tune to test your audio systems exactness and atmosphere control. Usually I don't tend to like too electronic sounding music. There is a lot of exeptions to my statement and this is one of them.

Real nifty work there Chris

Amazing!

...with these "days" I also want to be a scientist.

I particulary like the subtle percussion and rythm, really good work!

Awesome. Nothing else to say.
I wish I had some of Hubirds smileys
The only thing missing is a slight pause so the listener can catch their breath.
And I'm not prejudiced either just because you're a Chief Scientist

I´m sure that Hubb can borrow you some Smilys  Thanks for the nice reviews, but please be honest, have you heard the track more than once?
First it sounds nice and maybe overwhelming but Huub gave me the last drop in my mug. It´s all a reverb sauce. Some things will change soon.

Hi Chris,
my first track comments were based on the version you sent to me before the upload.
Yes, I have heard it more than once and I'm listening to the upload version again now as I write.
I had great pleasure listening to it on my CD walkman at a certain art exhibition yesterday so I'm quite saturated by "Day 70".
My comment remains - simply awesome
But on further hearings, I can catch my breath around the 4:45 mark.
An exceptional track - quality.
The ending is much more complete too.

I don't like this sort of music, but....
Sorry, bad joke and just kidding, I love this music !!

There's nothing I can contribute technically or musically for this one. Simply amazing soundscape. I really liked the "twilight zone/etherial clock" motif with the detuned bell sound - you kept that throughout the track which really was a nice touch. Adds a nice mysterious edge, sort of forboding, while everything else around it was beautiful and full of wonderment.

Wow!....nothing else to say....just Wow!

very well done, great use of layered sounds and very cool and subtle percussion, although it would be cool if at one point the whole layered composition broke down into something very quiet, than add some new elements/atmosphere and build up again to a climax. That's probably what I would have done (if I was capable of generating soundscapes like this that is )

Did you have much trouble mixing all the sounds together? (how many different sounds are there anyway?!) I guess you must have good monitoring

Wow from me too.
Thank you very much for the replys Brett and KOS.
Yes, I thought on a quiter part in this track but then I decided to slow down the things for some bars and to make a long fade out of the mood to the end of the track.
The track uses, before I did the mixdown, ten audio tracks and 14 midi tracks.
My monitoring is not the best, I have an very old (15 years?) Kenwood home amp and I have pluged a pair of passive Tannoys Reveal on it.
Thanks for your interest.
cheers

Oh my. . .

This is probably one of the best tracks Ive heard here on planetZ. Very atmospheric and intricately woven.

However, I think there is too much "white noisey" material in the high frequencies. It sounds almost like a tape cassette copy, where the background tape noise shines through at the more quiet parts.

Mayhaps some of the more atmospheric sounds need some low pass filtering?

Nevertheless, a great piece of music.

And you mention a ModIII patch called space generator. Is that particular patch open for public download? Id love to get my hands on it.
An eye for an eye, and soon the whole world is blind.

Thank you very much Nisse.
I´m a little confused about the white noise you hear. I used a long "sharp" slow flanger on some pads, you can hear it "clicking" when the track starts and when it ends, maybe this the cause.

Yes, the modIII patch from Thalamus is here on Z, a very nice mood setter:

After all your compliments, I´ve decided to do a further version of this track (I never did that before) but I´ve got already 6 muted tracks with melody elements in this song.
Also I can balance the reverb a little, ha!
