The Modular 2 was my first hands on experience with anything like a modular concept. I'd seen the 1970's equipment that the rock stars had and wished "gee whiz" wouldn't that be neat. Well, here is the modular concept in a cheap $99 dollar package (okay, you have to buy an expensive sound card) and it is pretty cool. Be warned all novices (including me) trying to learn the modular system is a veerrrrry steep learning curve but it is worth it if you are deep into synthesis. You can create all kinds of neat little sound machines that have their own particular style and you almost don't ever have to buy another soft synth if you are a very resourceful programmer.

One downside. The screen space that a large Modular patch takes up. And all the virtual cable connections. And why can't you click ANYWHERE in the Modular window and move the Modular around. It's very frustrating only being able to grab the top border and move the window.

Yes, it takes up a lot of screen real estate. Yes, the interface could be a bit better. And yes this is the absolute greatest synth for Pulsar. Nothing is so flexible, so mighty and so varied in capability. And if you add the hundred or so good patches with a couple of dozen presets each, then you've got hundreds - maybe thousands - of sounds that vary from sweet pads to FM grind, drums, sequencers and FX. And if that's still not good enough for you, then build your own!
