I just got a new instrument... it's called a Xaphoon. Perhaps some of have heard of it before. Basically, it's a plastic pipe with an alto sax reed. There are holes in it that is laid out somewhat like a recorder. The end result is a mix of saxophone and clarinet. Really strange. And CHEAP! I got mine for US50.

Anyhow, I thought many of you may want a cheap solution to sample short sax phrases. If you've played a reed instrument before, I'm pretty sure you can get right into it. I've played 5 years of clarinet, which makes it a bit easier.. though I'm in the midst of intensive practicing. Not good enough for any recordings yet tho.

Check it out!

And here's an amazing demo tune executed with excellent technique (not by me)

I'm glad to hear you are getting again with a new instrument Ken. I would love to hear what you can do with it, please, post some melody or something when you are ready. It'll be very interesting to find out how it sounds... It doesn't look at all as a sax.

Interesting tone ... a blend of Clarinet & Sax (leaning a little more towards Clarinet IMO).

I take it you bought an injection-molded version, rather than the bamboo one?

Some of the claims of the website are perhaps stretching the truth a little, but the instrument seems to represent very good value for money!
