p4, intel 850, 512 rdram.
i know you all (and me too) have bumped into this question a whole lot of times but i just can't find an explanation anywhere.
i recently bought a wdc 80gb 8mb cache hdd on which i installed winxp pro in acpi mode.
i have a luna2 and a pulsar 2 which doesn't share irq with anything. when in logic i hear occasional clicks like, every 25 seconds.
if i listen to recorded material the clicks are not regular as in clicking at the same place in the song, it's just random clicks so i've excluded that the clicks gets recorded.
when it clicks it affects the recorded sound, the sound kind of "ducks" when the click sounds..
SFP works flawlessly on t h i s (wdc 100 gb 2mg cache) hdd that i use for internet, gaming etc and i have NOT tweaked this os at all..
i've tweaked the os on that other hdd to the max, installed intel application accellerator, reinstalled SFP several times, set it to "background services", updated my graphics drivers bla bla, you name it.
anyone got a clue?
thanks.

yes i suppose standard pc is the way to go.
what bothers me though is that XP with acpi works smooth as hell on my slower hdd, while the same exact configuration on my new "fast" hdd feels a bit unstable, slower startup, random clicks in logic for example.
i use "nicklock" to choose between the hdd's, which makes my computer believe that any hdd i choose (with the flick of a key) at startup is IDE "primary 0".
wonder what the heck it could be...

yes Tom, the clicks causes a slight micro-short studder on the recorded audio. regarding your power supply theory, the thing is that the other hdd runs perfectly. with an untweaked os (!).
i think i remember something like this happened back when i was using SBLive, i believe the intel app acc was the cause back then.. does that make any sense?
by the way, i had MAJOR problems a minute ago when i added a 2nd amplitube to a 2nd track. logic refused to run and the "audio meter" in logic went bananas. (i've worked on projects with 6-7 amplitubes and loads of other plugs).
i only had 2 tracks running (!!!).
when i ctrl+alt+deleted logic was on roughly 115000kb and while that window was open there was "click and pop and scratch" mayhem.
what's up with that?
