Hi,
I recently wanted to connect a SCSI CD burner to my son's WinXP PC. Why SCSI? Because I had an opportunity to do it. The AHA 2940 controller installed with no problems so I decided to install a copy of Easy CD creator v4 (because I had just this) - at this stage I didn't know WinXP has a built-in CD burning facility. I installed it though Win warned me about problems could occur but I ignored it. Then, after rebooting a message appeared on the screen 'cd recording software driver disabled because of incompatibility'. OK I said and uninstalled the ECC. After rebooting the same message appeared... Where to get rid of this damned annoying driver or something???

Your Direct CD is the famous Ver 3! Good tips also from

Brute force method:
Do you have System restore enabled? Disable.
Have a look for CDR4VSD.SYS and Cdrtc.dll, Cdral.dll, Cdr4dll.dll. There should be more .sys under the same date. Open properties and look if Company is Adaptec or Roxio. Delete all.
Search for all *.dll and *.sys in the registry. Delete all related keys.
Good luck!

Damn, nothing helped
I had to... reinstall windows. In the critical moment my cd-rom was absent in the driver list... Fortunately I copied the documents folder to a separate disk so it's almost harmless to reinstall windows.
BTW I don't understand it. I wanted to reinstall in 'fix' mode (sorry, perhaps the English phrase is different but I mean not clean install but overinstall with all my settings not touched) but somewhere in the middle of the process a message apeared about a missing file and I couldn't load it from the XP install disk
and so I had to erase/install. In our Mac world (I mean classic OS not the OSX which is more complicated) it is simple - if a component doesn't work you can make an overinstall which only overwrites original files leaving all my personal settings in place or I can have a clean install which replaces the system folder but... all other files are still available for me because the old system folder is still on the disk as... 'old system folder' - so I can move all my additional filesback to original places without any installation.
It was just my rant, sorry.
