what's a good motherboard for a powerpulsar?
Better yet. What is a good motherboard for three 15 DSP cards. The PCI bus issue is one that I'm sure was explored in the past on PZ but one that needs to continue to be discussed. I never had any PCI "overflows" until I exceeded 6 sharcs. I can usually get the system to work properly, but the sudden lack of stability is something that troubles me. I want to get the maximum SFP setup I can get, but I want it to work. Is the bandwidth of the PCI bus the same on all pcs motherboards? Thanks yall!
Hi there,
As you know the CW cards are dependant on the PCI bus. Therefore you should definately look for a mobo with one of the recent intel chipsets since they are most stable with it. I have had best experiences with asus mobo's. Theoreticaly the PCI bus bandwith is the same on al mobo's but experience has learned that this is NOT true for all of them. VIA has a bad reputation about this at least with some of the older boards, I can't comment on the new ones but I like to stay on the safe side of things and I keep buying asus mobo's with intel chipsets and I find them very reliable and stable.

I agree completely with Valium here... I own a new P4PE and it's a Tank, not a MOBO, fantastic... and extremely expandable, lots of usefull features which work VERY well. Lan onboard which works well without interfering with other proceces.
If I had to buy a new MOBO right now, it would be the P4PE-X or the P4P800 from ASUS, of course.
PCI performance, and all other issues, are not as simple as they seem to be... MOBOs are "INTERCOMUNICATION ORDERERS" and this is what you need to understand. Do not inmediately trust my words, it's always better if you go and read in depth reviews about what you intend to get. Get to know HOW a MOBO works, and you'll find out why Asus MOBOs are so reliable... Just a hint about it:
P4PE (full version) works in a way that alsmot everything has its own host, there is no sharing of data transfer packs, and everything having its own stree (if I can say like this), goes faster, but MORE IMPORTANT, RELIABLY!
That is why also, the P4PE is so extremely crwded with many, many little things on there...

I would go for an Intel card. Not just Intel based, but build by Intel. And I would get one with gigabyte LAN, because Intel uses the ICH5 option for gigabyte LAN, and this is the only LAN, that does not pass the PCI bus. Also it does not have a north bridge fan. I have not tryed it myself, but this is, what I would jump for, if I was to buy a new PC. 865/875 based ofcoarse.

I remember that Subhuman, which was a truly knowledgeable person that used to be part of the forum, told us that Intel boards are not the best for Creamware users. I don’t remember well why, but I remember he said this once.
On the other hand, and without contradicting Immanuel advice, answering your question:
I would go for the P4P800, because it’s a perfected P4PE, and supports 800MHz SFB, that’s it. You can’t go wrong anyway, with either of both, the P4PE full or the P4P800, both are excellent boards. I’m just beginning to install my software… I’ve tried video playback to highest resolution and can’t be but very surprised at the output, there is not a glitch. Of course, there are many factors for this to be, but your MOBO “IT IS” one of them… and one of the most important of them… I’m anxious of trying out Cubase, I have still to install it.
Nevertheless, I guess most of us have done a research to buy the best possible board, and curiously, most people in this forum are using ASUS boards. Read a little about the Planet Z setup systems, and you’ll understand what I mean. Nevertheless, I’m sure that some other manufacturers like Abit are also good ones, but it seems that Audio Pros, are going ASUS most of the time.

Good luck!

Not to speak bad of your setup Nestor, but I believe the "pros uses Asus" comes from the fact, that Asus has put out some good cards and that Asus have done very well in telling the world about it.
On the other hand, they too have put out quite some motherboards, witch just where not ready yet. But they are very well branded, and I believe, that they for this reason as a compagny are a bit overhyped - not their good boards, but the compagny in general.

actually sub recommended intel boards.the reason that they are not first on the list is because they don't really allow overclocking, which some found a disadvantage(less user bios settings).but for lan intel has always(p4s anyway) been suggested.i have an intel board and it is very stable.it worked with almost no tweaking as well(kinda like a mac).
Reviews are, unfortunately, worth next to nothing, when designing a Creamware rig. They just do not test the PCI performance. 3DMark tests are useless for our use.
We are more or less reduced to going in depth with the over all design of the board. Also reading other users statements can be ok, but I'd skip any user recomendations, unless the total setup has been working for atleast 2 months. One problem with users statements is, that they often overrate their gear - or they may not get it to work due to error40.

thxs for reply!!!
I think i gonna take a asus P4P800 or a P4C800 , i don't find here intel mboards.
My old sellt motherboard was a steable one a A7M266 with amd chipset. Now i haved try with asus A7N8X rev 1.06 and A7V8X-X,
but both type are crash after X minutes
in prodjects with sx. the same prodjects are stable on my old A7M266. afther 3 weeks testing on amd it time for pentium. i hope this time it's gonna works.
