Well, I’ve just booted up my new system, quite exited… The fans, the temperature detector, the green light from the motherboard, everything seems alright, but there are no POST at all… There are no messages from the P4PE, no bips or spoken messages from ASUS Report. What is going on and what should I do? Please, help me out of this…

I don't think you can install any OS before getting your hardware set up ready Eliam.

Well, this is what I call “a frustrating day”… I did everything I had to do and double-checked all the connexions so I just know they are right, before powering up for the first time.

When powering up, the green (blue in the Thremaltake) light lighted correctly, and the red led for HDD activity lighted up as well… I would say there is sort of a small bip at the very beginning, but it’s so imperceptible, that I can’t really say it’s there… it seems more an electric contact beginning it’s electricity transference, that’s it.

NO POST from the P4PE, absolutely nothing. There are no bips to tell me something is wrong, nore any voice telling me something is badly connected. The screen is black and shows nothing either. It is properly connected and powered up as well. I can nevertheless switch it off, by holding for more than 4 seconds, so in a way, the system is responding to powering up and down… but nothing else. I’ve double checked all the connexions again, and gently pressed possible bad connexions into their respective places, searching fixing something, whatever it may be.

The 5 fans run perfectly well, the power supply too, the HDs I know are running as well cos they are slightly hot. The P4 CPU fan is also running. The Thermaltake temperature clock shows with perfection the temperature of the board, BTW, the temperature is 21”.

I’ve powered it on and off, several times… I took the video card out and put it back, on the yearning it was this the problem, but it wasn’t. In fact, if the MOBO does nothing, i.e. gives me no answer whatsoever, it could be precisely, a MOBO problem…

Please, those of you with knowledge about these topics, help me out of this trouble, I really am worry, I have not a clue, either more money to replace anything at all…

Hi Nestor, i'm sorry to ear you have troubles...

I had your problem before. Maybe I sound bad, but i had nothing else i could do, it was a defective mobo. I didn't broke anything, it is not the first times i ear this. Just to make sure, unplug everything, all cards, hd, etc... Just leave the video card and power... if it's doing the same thing, well, too bad, i think it's the defective mobo. This happens sometime, really nothing you could have done. Just go and exchange the mobo. I'm sure you can, and also provide a proof you didn't broke anything yourself.

Just as a comforting story, in the A7V era, i buyed a mobo (the A7V), a friday, install everything, then, the same thing happened, no POST at all... Next day, first thing in the morning, did go to the shop to exchange the board, they didn't argue a lot.

Got back home, reinstalled everything, you know what? SAME THING! ARRGG! Back to the shop, they exchange the board again, but i had some troubles trying to convince the guy i didn't do nothing, i didn't broke it myself etc...

Back home, man, after installing, SAME THING AGAIN! This times i was pissed off totally.

Back to the shop, arguing the guy about an hour, after all this, he agreed to give me another board, but said it was the last whatever happened. Then i argued with him,, that it was not my fault etc, and especially, that nothing proove me the board was working anyway in the first place. So i refused the accept the board until he proove me it's working. So he tried. He plugged the board and guess what, DID WORK! Ha! Was happy not to accept this board, now he looked bad. He went and tried 2 more board before he found one working!!! Ha! I was layghing at him, telling him he's selling crap etc... This was the biggest store in France. Surcouf it's called...

He finally found one working, and it still worked and i was home(well, it barely worked for a damn via chipset, but that's another story...), i knew it wasn't me who broke those boards...

What happened is this was a bad batch. They had 80% returns on this batch! Incredible. You think you're buying quality stuff, but it IS crap, total crap. And you can't know before hand. I know it almost impossible, but a 'try before you buy' should exist in computer parts...

Anyway, in your case,i'm almost conviced it is a bad mobo... Shit happens...Too bad...

it purrs?did you try to instal xp yet?or do you not know which key for the bios?usually it's delete,sometimes a function key.your mobo manual should tell you.it's very possible that those post messages fly by before you see them.that's a much faster computer than mine.try pushing del rapidly when switching on for a feww seconds and give it a moment.then try the function keys in the same way.remember it does take a moment for the bios screen.i would expect a blank screen as there is no os.otherwise,check all your connections again.you could just boot with the xp disk or a 98 startup disk.it should begin installing the os.

If you are right, this really is tooooo bad, cos I have to travel to do so, and this is not France you know? Here things work in quite a different way… Well, what can you do… life has so many things like this one happening.... If it is the MOBO, well, there is nothing I can do. Hopefully it is not, but I thought the same than you, cos no POST…

If anybody has an idea of what tricks I could try out, appart from the one just gently given by Marcus, it'll be greatly appreciated, thanks.

Usually motherboards will have beep codes for no cpu (bad cpu), no ram (bad ram), no vga card (bad gfxcard) etc. If you're not recieving ANY beeps there are pci-based modules that you can use that will give you a numeric error code for each portion of the POST that passes/fails.

Forgot to say the Keyboard does not work at all, not even lights up when powering up the system.... so I have no control whatsoever to try something from the Keyboard.

No POST or bips at all. I have unplugged the keyboard as suggested, but it did not look for it. Nevertheless, I switched off and booted up again, and now the keyboard was alive, but everything else the same, no answer.

I’ve unplugged the Screen, to see if it would look for it, or bip out something, but nothing at all. The system runs idle, but with no POST whatsoever…

This was my last try for today… it’s 2:30 and tomorrow will be another day… I’ll be here for another 30 minutes so, to read your possible posts… but that’s it for today… I’ve been 4 hours trying to get onto it, but couldn’t. Perhaps tomorrow something special happens and I find the way, or not… and I have to return this P4PE changing it for another one… hopefully sound. Thanks very much for your attention guys, It’s so nice to feel you from here, even at thousands of kilometres, but nevertheless, the mind has no time or place… is everywhere…

well if you can't see the bios something is wrong. also if you can't boot from the cd well.....

do you see the boot screen?

that's right everywhere.but here is a question,did you try and see if it would boot from cd,now that the keyboard works?i think you can just start it up with the cd rom in the drive and it should install windows.it really seems like a bad mobo....too bad.
