Hi!
Got myself a 19" rack case for my studio and have made is as soundproof as I can. In 5,25" slots for the case I got one IDE drive and above one SCSI drive. Now I'm a bit worried about the temperature for the drives as they don't have any fans blowing air directly on them.
I've probed the temp above the SCSI disk and it ends up at just below 60C when working 100% for a long time. I wonder if this is far to high or acceptable?

Recommended disk temperature?
hmm.. thats very warm!
If you have 5.25" external drive-bays, I'd recommend getting removable harddisk-drawers, they are commonly used in rack's and servers, and have one or two small fans blowing air over the disk..
I read somewhere that it is not recommended using anything faster than a 5400rpm IDE drive without extra cooling...

Yep, but then I'll get more noise as well. I record vocals in the same room so the lower the noise...
I have a 3,5" bay for two drives above the motherboard. I guess they would be in a more open space sitting there and also get cooling from the front case fan. But then I have do drop my Innovibes
Will take a look at the Seagate site as well...

I ran Speedfan now and it measures 52C in the ATA drive when it's idle.
Immanuel: Checked out Seagate but couldn't find the right articles. Did you have any good links?
I got one vibration damper per drive already, called Innovibes. Think they work OK.

I also have a 5,25" slot free between the drives which I could use for some kind of cooling. Any suggestions?
