I've been having good luck with a Shure KSM-32 for vocals AND instruments.

i've had experience with the rode line of mics, including the NT1, but i find that the shure condenser has a warmer, less brittle sound.

just my opinion...

Hey Sevenstring, you're not a fan of DreamTheatre are you? Just had a listen to your stuff. Very nice!

Hello to all!

I am still trying to decide what to buy... I found 2 good deals:
a) Focusrite Trakmaster + Rode NTK for 700 Euros
b) Focusrite Trakmaster + AKG C3000B for 420 Euros

What do you think of these? Should I buy one of the two?....its a nice price, isnt it? And both units are good...

concerning the mics:
I would say if you go for the AKG, you better choose for the C4000B.
But anyway I would go for the Rode NTK, wich I bought recently.
I compared the C4000B and the NTK, both are great sounding, very simular, but the NTK won the match due to tiny more clear and fresh hi freq's.
The AKG has switchable polar patterns (3) for universal use, the NTK has just one (narrow), but to me this was OK.

The NTK comes with a great heavy duty mic power supply and cables, check it out at http://www.rodemic.com/specsntk/index.html
The NTK got extremely good reviews concerning sound and hardware.
Where I bought it it came with a nice shock mount spider for free.
I payed a 550,- €, beeing a usual price (in Germany at least).
To have a real tube mic for that mony is a nice idea also, isn't it?
cheerz.

Thanks, bassdude...

I DO dig Dream Theatre, but these days, i listen to bands like Symphony-X, Vanden Plas, and ARK. Those three are my "holy trinity" of prog-metal right now.

Funny story: Back in the mid-to-late 80's, I was doing the writing, vocals, and guitars in a band called "Drastic Measures" in the SF Bay Area. I decided that I wanted to do metal, but with odd meter and intricate arrangements. I didn't have a name for what I was trying to do, even though now I know it was progressive metal.

So eventually, I had people coming up to me after shows saying, "You guys sound like Dream Theatre."

My response at the time was, "Who?"

Little did I know that some guys on the East Coast were doing this stuff too. So I went out and bought "Images and Words", and was happy to discover some new cool music to enjoy.

Hello to all!

I have finally made some decisions and I am in need of your help again before taking money out of my wallet!

A chain is as strong as its weakest link: therefore, I am getting rid of the behringer mixer and buy a decent mic preamp.
I thought to get as well a Red5Audio RV8 large diaphragm mic. I have heard a lot of good things about them and they are ridiculously priced (100GBP).
So in this way, I will spend most of my budget at the moment for the preamp (which will last) and I will have a relatively good large diaphragm condenser mic in addition to my Shure BG4.1 small condenser. I will save money again in order to buy in the future a Rode NTK, or a AKG SolidTube (I have heard them here: http://www.thelisteningsessions.com/session5.htm and they sound pretty good).

Now, I need your help in deciding which preamp to buy for around 500 euros. Taking into account that when you buy American products you pay a lot of import taxes, I will consider buying only British or German (or other EU) products.
Your help, will be appreciated. Please look here as well: http://www.planetz.com/forums/viewtopic ... &forum=5&0 and tell me what do you think.

Thank you very much!
