it's my 1st real song i made using Pulsar2
It isn't finished yet as there are no vocals and guitar solo yet, and i'm also thinking of adding a few more synth tracks...

You know, that MP3 sounds too bad comparing to real sound....

Please let me know your opinion about that song, especially about drums and guitars...
I think bass drum is too loud and it pobably has too much low frequences. I'm also not sure about bass guitar - it's programmed using fender samples and probably sounds bad.

let me know,
Thank you

No, personnaly i like it... Not my style really, but i liked it when i listened to it.

BTW, are you compressor fan? Cuz, maybe i'm mistaken, but the sound is SO much compressed that it sounds completely squashed!

Well, the song wasn't mixed down like it should and there was no mastering done... So i just made a quick compression of a mixdown before i encoded MP3.

If you could give me some tips on how should i use compressors on such kind of music (or just a basic theory) i would really appreciate that.

One more thing: I added you to my MSN Messenger but I don't seem to see you online (on it). If you don't mind, i would like to have you on any of instant messaging program like ICQ, MSN, AIM if possible, as I really respect you by reading a lot of your post on planetz and CW boards. So if you use any of these clients, tell me a way how to add you, or add me (my details on profile page).

thanks.

Well, i will need to record real drums and vocals in a studio anyways, as i have no possibility to record real drums at home and i don't think i'm good enough to record vocals at home yet too. But this song will be written anyways (if my band's members won't reject it, hehe)

If you want to listen to samples of the songs my band has already released you can get them there:
http://www.tinklapis.lt/ruination/muzika.html
(the page is in my native language)

1st song block is from our CD single recorder in 2001 - it's our latest recording.
2nd block - from the album recorded in 1998
3rd one - in 1996

The vocalists vary because we switched 2 of them already, and making the program with a third one now.

cheers
(I am watching you)

Yes, the compression is to much but the overall feeling is ok - each instrument is audiable, the stereo base is wide but still compatible with mono mode. Perhaps it is due to the compression but I think tehre is a bit too much of reverberation in the song, too. It's only my opinion and you don't have to agree with me, of course

I don't know compression too much but in my opinion you should leave the guitars uncompressed as the amp do it for you; drums should be compressed but not the whole drums and with long attack and short release (you have to listen to it and observe the results).

The general rule is that if a recording sounds good with no master it will be good after mastering proccess (in such case the mastering should be just maximizing with no compression). But, as I said, it's my opionon

Samplaire: thanks for your input. I added you to my ICQ list, we're neighbours, I'm from Lithuania...

I just applied compression for the whole mixdown, no compression for the guitars alone. And I did not used a real guitar amp - just Amplitube plugin.

Reverbs: I just used reverb for drums, other tracks have delays.

By listening to this song many times i think the rhythm guitars are a bit silent, maybe i'm wrong.

I burned a CD and listened to that song on my home theater system (Harman/kardon receiver and JBL 5.1 XTI Set) and it sounds excellent... With a subwoofer just the bass sounds too merged with a song, dunno if it's good or bad. But the overall power of the song is really good...

Hi neighbour

You have to watch out listening to any piece of music on a good equipment like yours - not to get your ears fooled  Especially the low end (bass, bass drum) Try to listen to it on any Panascanic, Hbatec, Sonny or similar hi-end gear to be able to compare frequency response and audiability.

Yeah, the drums should be a bit more dry (IMHO) or with a shorter reverb (but not too short! not to be something like the awful '80  ). Amplitube can be considered as a guitar amp in that case (at least it is supposed to work like one  ).

BTW - my mother comes from Lithuanian south-west; she was born before the WW2 - but now it is Belarus, I belive  Her name is Lija

yes, i know that. It's better to listen that on a cheap home audio or car audio to see that all instruments are audible because not many people have good audio equippment
