Dysfunctionality

Vocals were done by a mate of mine in Melbourne, VIC, Australia - Brad (Joey Sculla)
Hope someone out there enjoys it - it's pretty hard sounding and the phrasing and placement of vocal lines is a bit strange - not your typical verse/verse/chorus/verse etc...
Any feedback welcome

I'm not much into these kind of genres, so this will only be thoughts that pupped into my mind while listening. That said, I liked the mix of this, everything sounds fine on my system (yamaha NS-10M). It would be interesting to hear the song without so much reverb on it, all though I don't know if it would make anything sound better, I just think the singer is placed a bit too far back in the whole mix. And maybe if you could give his voice a little more buttom and make him more dangerous... But all this is minor details.
I liked those laser-things in the rythmsection.
Hmm - don't know what else to say... Oh yes - Cool track!

This reminded me of a band that also made (make?) metal using computers.... I can't remember their name though - Doh!

you're right, in fact it's quite ok!
good sound, good arrangement, great (sounding) voices

Reminds me of Consolidated and Meat Beat Manifesto, sauced a bit with metal athmosphere.

Thanks for the feedback -and yes, the reverb and delay on the vocals worried me too - unfortunately it's hard-wired into the vocal tracks LOL... that's a vocalist for you. I didn't think of beefing up the bottom end on the VOX either - will attend to that.
I have done about another 5 remixes of this since posting - fixing up some lame drum parts etc - now I'll see if I can gate the delay on the vocals and add a bit more bottom end - .... thanks again

i like it too! imo, the vocals are great this way. i wouldn't really bring 'm up, just some 'swelling' here and there (in the delayed part? ) would be nice though.

The vocal work added all the extra inspiration for later mixes - yet to be uploaded - still perfecting it.
The closest I can think is probably NIN influenced (???)
I'll upload the final completed version when I can. Thanks for the feedback

Nope it wasn't "The young gods", "Nerve" or "NIN". I remember giving that album away to a friend of mine. I think the name of the band had two e's in it, but I'm not sure. I remember how the album looked like though. I bought it back in '95 or '96. It came with a cartbox-folder rabbed around the CD-cover, that had a light brown/greyish colour, and I think the writing was in red and black.
And I remember they had an issue with people who didn't think that it was possible to make metal-music using computers and sequencers. They mentionened something about it on the cover.
They had one hit, which was the first song on that album. Can't remember much about that either...... Lousey brain....

Sounds like a band called "Filter" ??? and the title of the CD was "short Bus"
They had one hit with Crystal Method called "trip like I Do" ?

And the hitsingle I was talking about was "Hey man nice shot".

And now back to the discussion - This track of your's made me think of Filter's "Hey man nice shot" from '95. All though there's more electro in your track.

Hey - no disrespect intended, your track just made me think of Filter

I think your track is darker and it would never go as a pophit on the charts... did that sound wrong? Anyways it was a compliment.

No - I was honestly flattered - I suppose I should have said that first off.
I really liked the CD at the time, otherwise I wouldn't have bought it. I have a lot of other influences too and some are just plain embarresing and show my age

I appreciated your feedback. I think it's good if a piece of music reminds you of something else - but not quite the same - it means that the person that created it is on the right track.
So thanks again.
I still have that filter CD (I went and had a listen after you mentioned it) and Crystal method and a version of "trip Like I do" from the soundtrack of "Spawn" hehehehe... All that stuff is still important to me.

I used to stay up all might listening to a radio program called "Brave New Waves" here in Canada.

This tune reminds me of those nights when they played the more hard-core stuff. I loved it because it wasn't the mainstream garbage that played on commercial radio.

This is a great track!

I used to tape BNW on my trusty reel-to-reel and copy my preferences onto cassettes. This track would definitely have made it to that stage.

I have a tentancy to be mostly radio-unfriendly - it's not by design or with any purpose - I just make the sounds I like. I HAVE actually tried to make mainstream tunes - but they always come out sounding cheesier than music from Planet Stilton
