If I scratch the stdm gold slighlty will it affect the cable being recognised?
How do I know if my gold links are damaged?

don't scratch them.if anything,clean them with pure alchohol.gold contacts don't go bad,unless(obviously)physically damaged.dirt can make them not work,however.

if you're speaking about the minor scratches from the cable itself,that really shouldn't be a problem.the scratches would have to be completely thru the copper trace for it not to work.oxidation would be a factor if the gold were completely removed.cleaning would solve that.(for a little while...point being that it'd work)

Just removed from device manager.Reloaded SFP
