I love the button tabs of Europa with the parameter values, that way I can see what the settings are instead of guessing. And It so cool that most of the controls on one page. Wavelength you’re my favorite synth designer because you actually build original instruments with new sounds. You can’t please everyone, but Europa sure pleases me.

the trick with the presets is to get some polyphony going, add some unison voices, tweak the unison spread a bit and then the true nature of the europa is revealed. if you want a huge monophonic unison effect, then put the unison voices to the "all" setting... its position is a knob click below "off" (-1).On 2003-02-22 05:51, Ganool wrote:
Why are everybody whining about the GUI? It's not as cute as Solaris - but how important is that anyway? Personally I think Europa SOUNDS very good. I agree with Spirit that the presets doesn't make the synth justice, but there are a couple of _really_ cool patches in there.
Good job!
i had to save the synth to default at 1 voice (monophonic, with no noticable unison) when loaded so that a user would have as little DSP as possible used up (so that you can still add it to an already kinda big project). some patches have unison settings already and all you have to do is add some poly voices to the synth.
fiddling with the unison settings can drastically effect the sound of the synth's preset patches.
it should also be quite easy and quick for you to change any given preset into something more your style, cuz there is a wide variety of preset styles presented.

Hi wavelength, I don´t mention the gui because you asked about the sound I guess and that the important thing of a synth.
From my view it works for me and you can have access to all parameters in seconds, good and enough.
I download all synths from your homepage inclusive the europa demo.
The share synths are really useful great sounding and very stimulating for my music.
Now the europa, I walked through the presets and must say that this synth is very nice to tweak and has a wide possibility of sounds.
My second step to test a synth is to program own presets, understand the routing and just play with it while I tweak it around.
I´am sorry but I must say that I erased the demo after few minutes of tweaking, I can´t work with such demo version when every few seconds this noise appear. It sets me always out of my mood and I have no fun to test a synth for you when I always disturb by this noise, same to the python, looks like you both use the same protection way.
I understand why you choose that way to protect your work but when I want to buy a new synth in a store I can play it for few hours if I like and without any reductions. I will give you a donation for your share synths, because I want use them in my productions, but I guess I won´t buy the europa before I can test it as I want.
It is just impossible for me to work with it.
Thanks for your great work and development anyway. It is important that the 3rd party developers be supported and kept alive.

How about a time limitation of 10min.
Disabled save function, if it is possible to do?
You can start the device only four or five times, so the users have a maximum of aprox. one hour for testing, more than enough for me. But please no strange noise.
If you still want to use the noise protection let it beep every minute.
Could this be a compromise ?

believe it or not, "back in the day" (back when I started selling) I had tried the volume mute demo-function and this got a lot of negative comments, as well. an agreeable demo format seems another one of those touchy issues. I could go back to this method, if more people agree that this is the way to go... let me know, cast your vote.

however, there are other methods to make demos. That was just a personal opinion. Unfortunately, i don't think you can disable saving presets without forbiding accessing the preset list.... you can disable some parameters from being recalled in the presets but i don't know how users would react to that....
I also suggest :On 2003-02-24 12:08, kimgr wrote:
Stephen, on the Timeworks demo's I simply bypass the FX's every 40 seconds or so. I find that much less annoying.
For the synths you could simply mute the output instead...
Here's a simple way to do it:
[simple sine]->[if(high)]->[bypass]

(****--- seen when posted---)
So sound is muted for a ----- as the sin values are----

In /DP 3.x you can disable storing of individual parameters in presets, but still allow recalling them...On 2003-03-07 10:07, spacef wrote:

(You set this after creating the presets offcourse

yes ? i think i can figure this out
edited : yeah of course. this way it doesn't even use any dsp... whith this method you can also allow a graphic recall with no influence on sound (of course, you provide this before and after)
. so the demo consists of being obliged to reset parameters manually (1 step back & forth to make graphics match with sound) , but being able to transfer those presets to the full version.... nice?
(what a dev forum!)
