Greetings from Chief Scientist Chris Werner and First Officer Neil B to everyone back home. As you requested, here is another transmission from the logbook of the spacecruiser „Starchaser“. We are in deep space now, but this transmission tells the story of one of our earlier adventures.
As we approached Saturn, we had the most amazing view of the planet with the rings at 45 degrees to us.
It was then that SAL, our on-board computer, saved our lives. She carried out an emergency start and propelled us forward to avoid debris from the rings hitting us. The G-Force was awesome.
Unfortunately that meant that we couldn’t avoid travelling through the rings due to our forward momentum.
It was a terrifying experience to say the least and many of our crewmembers were traumatised by the journey. Of course, we made it through in the end, but you now have the opportunity to share our adventure.
As it is nearly Christmas, we’d like to wish you all:
A Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
Froehliche Weihnachten und viel Gluck im neuen Jahr.
We’d also like to pass on our thanks to everyone who responded to our Pluto transmission.
We have a small mission now to look for a star that would have appeared in the East a couple of thousand years ago. Once this mission is completed we will send you our final transmission about the work we carried out on Mars.

Doesn't get much bigger than this ! An organic Tangerine Dream style intro with the brass and flutey wind sounds keeping things warm human instead of cold space.
Really enjoyed the rocket thrust bottom-end pink noise - and then the real song begins ! Nice progression of the story I didn't expect. The girl's voice coming in with the prayer is super-smooth - a pity it doesn't continue straight away as part of the song, it was adding real power.
Later, the scream was so piercing it reminded me of an over-revved power tool - then back to the organic "real" instrumentation. I can't quite make out a lot of the words, but maybe this is what you intend ? Just ambient tech chatter ?
This track is so big, moves around so much, has so many different textures and moods, that it desperately wants to have a video.
I imagine a lone female pilot (that's her praying and screaming) with just a "male" computer as company.
A real story here, which I always like. BIG !

Thanks for the reviews guys - very grateful for the feedback.
Legros - as Chris said- we have planned only a trilogy with the possibility/probability of another track together later in 2003 - but who knows?
The final track for now - Mars - is already under development but we're taking a short break from sending each other sections of tracks - my internet bill is massive!
Of course we both have ideas for solo works that are currently on hold until the trilogy is completed.
Spirit - thanx to you too. You said, quote"Nice progression of the story I didn't expect." I think it surprised both of us at times with the direction that it took us but we're both very pleased with the end result.
For your information, Mars is very definitely back to the Berlin School/Tangerine Dream mellotrons and sequencers, but that's another story.
I'm glad that you like all the various component parts - in many ways we must have had a film/video in mind as it developed.
I must take you up on your imagination though of a female pilot and male computer. SAL is the female computer and is complaining about the sexist remark, and as the First Officer, I didn't realise I'd had a sex change
See you in the New Year guys.

Hey Spirit what a nice detailed review you´ve wrote.
In the beginning Neil said, I want fly through the rings of Saturn. Well, now we have a 48 Channel track, with 64 wav tracks on it. One big arrangement and 4 sub arrangements.Things went big, I must agree.
Thank you for the sentence about the smooth girl voice from Sylvia, I will send her greetings from australia, she will like it.
To help you a little through this track I will tell you our whole Saturn story.
We approach Saturns orbit and cooling down the machines,SAL says that too.
Then we are overwhelmed by the view we´ve got there. " Look at Saturn, what an amazing view".
Suddenly SAL done a emergency start (the big engine thrust) and saved our lifes before a big debris out of the rings, could hit us.
Neil explains what happen and we raise the defense shields, we must fly through the rings and can only pray.
The main part starts.
Small debris hits our shield and hull, you can hear such a small hull hit. The second debris flies by ,that was close.
Finally the third debris caught us , we were hit and began we roll through the rings. Absynth and scream time.
Somehow we survived this and we thank god for that.
"Hey Neil, we have made it", "yes, many things are damged but we are alive, start the repairs we head for pluto"
We´re leaving Saturn the Starchaser sounds come back, our melody the machine pulse etc. the music fades out. "The coffee machine is destroyed,no coffee, damn". "The coffee machine? they destroyed my wrist watch too,(SpaceBrothers, hihi), mars was more peaceful,Oh man".
That was a good way to bring this track to an end. Yes, it should be a small talk Spirit, something to bring us back on earth, somehow.
Thank you and have fun with this track.

Well thanks for that Liisa - glad you enjoyed it.
I thought that this track had long disappeared of the "play lists" !
You also caught me by surprise because we're due to upload our latest and final track and I thought that it had already appeared!
I hope you like the new one as much as this - it's more like the Pluto track.
Thanks again
Neil

Somehow I missed this transmission back in December. Sorry about that!
When the beat comes in, it's such a surprise, and then when the prayer started, I honestly got goosebumps... Really good.
I love the break at 4:15, 'deliver us from evil'. Very well crafted. The pitch-swoop when the lead comes back in is great!
One comment, Neil and Chris, by your voices, I wonder, are you robots or humans on this journey???
I'm off to listen to Mars

Thanky you very much for this raction on our Starchaser project. Neil and I are very glad.
Hapless it will take some time before we can make some music together again, but we´ll.
Of course we are humans John but our First Officer had forgot his mic on this journey. I´am sure he will explain this later.
I hope you´ve enjoyed Mars?
As I said at Saturn, Mars was more peaceful.

Hadn't heard this one before, even though I loved the other spacecruiser tracks. This one is equally amazing. As John said, I also got goosebumps at various parts in the song so that should tell you something about how good it is. I can't wait to hear this stuff on a proper soundsystem or even in 5.1 surround! Now that would be something....
Anyway, since your collaboration has been this succesful, I hope you will make more of these tracks (there are still more planets to observe
), and release it as an album. You could have a booklet with the story in it as well. Come on, you know you want to!

I am another one of those who didn’t realise this song was up here…
I can go from China, in the beginning of times, thousands of years ago, when the earth was still quite pure… I don’t feel it happening now, but long time ago. As if the travel was made in times technology did not exist in earth, but pertained to a little group of people that being humans, were in some other planet, and they came back to earth as to fulfil with a destiny.
Nothing to take away, nothing to add
