dag nam it. I've just upgraded to sfp3.1c, and I can't get my akai cd's to work on my pc. I've done everything mentioned in the threads ( new akai.dll, cd2000.dll, got the latest aspi4.72), but I just get a blank space where the sample programs used to be.

asus motherboard with amd 1.7
plextor cdrw, and old matshita cd drive(tried both)
win2k, sfp3.1c

anyone else experience anything similiar?

Would that enable me to load sample programs into the sts 5000?

I've got a feeling that it's something to do with the admin rights, as I'm on win2k server. Does anyone know what/how admin rights setting I should be on?

i have a very strange behaviour: try if your is the same (i report the letter i wrote to CW and to CW forums)

i have some strange problems with akai cds in SFP file browser window...

after some study, i found that the situation is really crazy: if i insert an akai cd in the reader and THEN i start SFP, i can read it with no problem. BUT if i switch and put in another akai cd, it doesnt read it, there is no way. but if i exit SFP and restart SFP, the new CD is read with no problem! only the first akai cd which was inside the cdrom is read..

if i have SFP running and put inside the reader an akai CD, i cannot read it...

i tried to re-install SFP 3.1a and every problem is solved, i can exchange akai cd and everything is correct. but when i reinstall SFP 3.1c things doesnt works and i have this crazy behaviour...

i run win98 (first edition), SFP 3.1c and i have pulsar1+luna.

i will be grateful if you succed in solving this problem! for now i've copied all the samples on my HD...

Hello!

I had the same strange behaviour when reading Akai CDs with SFP. I could read the 1st one but not the others when I changed CDs. If you right click somewhere inside the File Browser of SFP, you get an option "Clear CD Cache" or something similar (can't remember). If you choose that then SFP can see the next CD you load in the CD-ROM. Clear the CD Cache each time when inserting a new CD in the CD-ROM.
I hope this helps.

Thank you

P.S. ...and I know it sounds stupid to mention it, but make sure that you have chosen in the SFP File Browser to display the Program and Sample files.

i remember i tried, but it didn't worked... however, just to be sure, i'll retry!

Also, get the fixed akai.dll and cd2000.dll from creamware FAQ database... Needed under W2K and XP....

Yeah, sorry, think you're right with the cd2000.dll, but 3.1c still need the akai.dll for some people i heard... Or mayby they didn't updated to sfp3.1c correctly? Anyway, akai.dll won't hurt... try it if nothing else work...

unfortunately, even after all new cd200.dll, and akai.dll, I don't get a thing. So i've just reinstalled 3.01 for the moment, and akai programs work fine in my matshita drive, but slightly strangely not in my plextor drive. I'm very confused....i'd better write an email to creamware.

It's a bugger cos it means that I have to use 3.01 for sampling, and 3.1c for synths!

adaptec made 2 aspi updates in relative short time. so maybe it was something wrong with a version before the last one.
i only guess, but anyway be sure that you have v.4.70 what work good for sure, or the last one (this one working good to me) v.4.71.2.

Mostly the only drive in my computer that reads AKAI CD's is the SCSI CD-ROM. Sometimes a program also reads them in a IDE CD-ROM. SFP only reads my AKAI disks in the SCSI CD-ROM, not in the IDE. Is there anyone who can read the CD's also in the IDE CD-ROM's?

I have DVD-ROM and CD-writer, both IDE. I CAN read AKAI-CDs, but with the same problem as bosone and rodos.
Next I'll try the recommended by sandrob version 4.71.2.

Guys use the search. This problem has been solved numerous times:

Thanks for the reply guys.

Astroman: I tried both Plextor drives - the Akai CD-ROM could not be seen. The Pioneer DVD drive would not even recognise the Akai formatted CD-ROM as the light on the drive just kept flashing continually.

Herr Voigt: Glad you got your problem sorted by using the Adaptec ASPI layer - it didn't work here but...

After trawling through hundreds of posts here I saw reference to a different revision of Akai.dll from Creamware.

I downloaded and installed this but no change - until after a reboot and now I can see the Akai CD-ROM!

Why do Creamware not only not mention this file anywhere?

Worse still why is it virtually hidden on their website?

I had the same problem looking for the updated 2K/XP WDM driver...

For any more poor, unfortunate souls who have the same problem here are the links to the files;

ftp://ftp.creamware.de/software/manuals ... s/akai.dll

sorry braincell, what worked for glynh (new akai.dll, cd2000.dll, got the latest aspi4.72), didn't do the job for chrisju.
Imho it's a totally wiered thing (why do I need CD2000.dll on Win98 ?) increasing it's complexity by the number of drives (CD, DVD, Writer)
no clue from my side what's happening.

confused, tom

Sorry, it worked for me. It's frustrating when things go backwards. My sp-dif in has not worked since version 1.0! I hope someone at CW is reading this.

Me too, braincell! There was a sp/dif patch from CW, I installed this, but no change. Sp/dif out is ok, but sp/dif in is a crap. Sometimes it worked a few seconds, but stopped then and did'nt work again. So I had to switch the optical In to sp/dif, when I recorded something from my MD-player. That's not funny because of changing the plugs every time.

 that's EXACTLY what some Fostex manual suggest to 'avoid digital feedback' on their recorders.
Btw: for me the above mentioned procedure for Akai CDs worked, too.
On S/PDIF I've simply given up since Adat-IO (on Pulsar one) is constantly connected to a digital mixer.
When I recently wanted to compare analog and digital outs of a (hifi) CD-Player I found it extremely difficult to switch the sync. When it finally worked (to some level) the digital part sounded very strange while the analog was crystal clear.
I'm happy that I didn't order that S/PDIF equipped Mic Pre

cheers, tom
