if I export a song in reason or cubase in 24/96 do i have to select it in the samplerate SFP option also ?And when burning to a cd, should I export 24/96 also ??
some producents use to say that's not good idea to do resamplering.
i heard also that if you want to work in higher resolution is better to use 88.2 instead 96 because of easyer and better resampling to 44.1 (half).
problem is because you can't set 88.2 in pulsar. you need external master for that samplerate.
re-biting with dithering is ok.
I think DVD audio uses 96 KHZ but DVD movies use 44.1. (with surround). DVD audio is a rare format. Correct me if I am wrong. There is also the Super CD to compete with DVD audio.
Actually, the bitrate/samplerate for DVD movies is not fixed. It is mostly a space vs quality tradeoff. You could make a DVD movie with 24bits/96Khz audio but it would have to be quite short as the audio would gobble all the available space.
Also, I just rembered, there is a limit to the total data bandwidth used by your program, which is equivalent to playing the DVD at 1x speed. So, if you put very high quality audio, the video stream would have to be highly compressed.
Note that the bandwidth limitation is not applicable to non streaming DATA(ie: a DVD-RAM disk used to store files and programs).

imho the high sampling rates aren't introduced for fidelity's sake, but because they simplify the design of digital filters, which results in reduced production cost of consumer (mass-)equipment.
It's also a great sales argument directed to those who either don't know or can't hear anyway.
Produce for less and charge more
