Hi, does anyone with a Mac uses two (or more?) monitors, therefor using the Settings dual-screen option?
There were some rumours that this option doesn't work properly yet on the mac.
I'm getting mad at all the windows, and I really wanne get me a second monitor.
Anyone with the happy  message that this will work fine?
Thanks, h.

sorry that I am use PC and not MAC, but I can tell you that once you go dual monitor YOU SIMPLY CAN'T go back...

I am serious, it's so addictive. I got dual 19, and man when I have to work on a computer with a single 17, I don't even want to use the computer...

I know I am lucky and all... hopefully it will work fine on you mac best wishes...

Sorry, forgot to add that...

I think the dual monitor should work with MAC no problem.

I know a guy that runs dual monitor on MAC, but that's a freaky old one.

My theory is that if it work with a 5-6 years old mac, then of course it will work with the new one. If there's something wrong with the OS or the driver, they will fix it ASAP, right?

So, go for it man...

and I tried tri-monitor setup, to behonest, that was a bit over kill and you start to turn your head all around...

Hi,

I'm a Mac user but don't have any dualhead graphic card. I know there is a patch for dualscreen macs on the cw' s site (downloads/pulsar/mac).

Thanks thusfar.
Indeed Samplaire, I'll have to get me a extra graphic card with dual monitor out.
I'm not interested in games, so there's no need for an expensive card investment
Still I'll keep waiting for that single one planetz mac user with 2 monitors actually working...

i use the OS mode not the pulsar mode
then everything goes faster to move around, and you see the mac desktop in backround, and i can move my mixer to
monitor 2.
but try to have a god graphic card, so everything mixer leds and so dont go to slow. and !!! iimportant have at least 16 mb Vram on the craphic card.

Thanks, Michael.
Strange you don't need to activate dual screen function, I knew the mac is smart but this is supernatural...
Off cource I use OS mode, it was the most happy improvement of the last big update
If you like please email me the name of your graphic card.

I'm not very surprised that it works.
I had dual monitors on an old Mac and it does'nt see it as 2 monitors.
It's like you have a 1280*2048 desktop.

That's one of Matrox' Dualhead settings too. You had probably selected 'Use one setting for both screens'.
I don't like my text going over 2 pages if I maximise. I choose to have 'different resolutions' for both monitors.

I have the 2XAGP and a older PCI
graphic card called TwinTurbo.

But I will get me a better one, its a little slow... but it runs.

The smart thing with OS mode
is if you have another monitor
it is just to drag whatever you have
to the other screen. (just like you do
in other apps.

(the bad thing) if you have a mixer, or synth placed on screen2 . next time you open the song its on the first screen.
and you must drag the synth back to the other screen.
. but hey. the new 3.1 OS will be released soon. and I think it will be a great update.

hey there IS the little adder...!
I hope you will be right about the next big update.
Anyway, thanks Michaelj and others, I feel more sure about dual screen now!

so, if i get it right, i should be able to just add a second graphic card? i just got a mac screen for free, and i'm dying to give 'dual monitoring' a try

a friend just got himself a second screen as well, and he got it working by just adding a cheap, second, graph card.

will it work for mac too? i have the b/w 450 G3, with four pci slots (no AGP). at the moment there are three creamware cards, so one has to go (also to cover a part of the possible noah puchase). or is a dual head card necessary? and can anyone point me to a best buy (for both single and dual, if not too expensive)?

thanks

hi Borg, yes two monitors is very very nice, and there are smart and cheap (well...) alternatives.
I let me inform by a Mac specialised computershop (HTR mailing), and I'm very satisfied with my ATI Raden 7000 card, 32 Mb.
Price: 110,- €, two monitor out, tv connection, monitor plug adapters, cables, and all today resolution compatibility.
And perfect installation, I forget it's there.
It got a nice review in the februari Macfan mag.
Just check the graphic compatibility, my G4 has AGP.

thanks hubird,

that was just what i was thinking about (the 7000), the price seems ok, i thought it was more expensive, but yeah, agp...

i'll check it out. lets hope the card does the old pci stuff.

Andy, you can't use an AGP card in a PCI slot. That's the bad news.
Now the good one: Mac PCI cards are bloody cheap on eBay

cheers, Tom

right tom, no agp, that's what makes the search a bit more complicated (often not well documented product sheets).

i'll definetely do a check on the ebay site.

can anyone tell me, whether it's possible to use two single graph cards? i'll check out prices this weekend, but i'd rather pay 50€ for a second card than 100€ + for a dual card. priorities...
all i know is, that it's better to have two cards from different manufacturers, so not to confuse the OS, is this true?

you may add as much cards as pci slots are available, the OS automatically takes care on this, no matter what manufacturer.
Btw. it does this since 1988  or something like that.
Most products don't require special software, the only thing I'd stay away from are cards with an IBM video DAC.
A very fancy looking chip similiar to a G3 CPU but with turquoise green carrier.
It has a bad signal quality (echoes) and was used in some old designs, but shouldn't appear too often.
One addition to the price: some Mac users believe they are Apple and try to charge unbelievable amounts for old stuff  so don't get fooled.

good luck, Tom

hi folks,

just did some checkin' out. i got a bidding going on at ebay at the moment for a radeon 7000 mac edition pci. i'll now more in 4 days time.
i also can get my hands on this one:
http://www.ammicro.co.uk/product_pages/ ... Tronic.htm
it's not the pro edition but the mpdd+. i know it's just 8MB, so will it do the job at a decent level?

i also tried the monitor i got from a friend on my system, but all i get at start up is the startup screen in miniature and four times, next to each other, then i just get a black screen. is the monitor dead (it worked before, maybe something happened during transport)? or is the screen too old (it was used on a IIci)? it's a 1991 model, 16" color display, family number M1298.
