Hi,

hope someone can help...

I have recently changed from a P3 450mhz to a new P4 2.4.... HOWEVER...

For some reason even using the same hard drive for audio the b***** keeps clicking... for some reason if I copy the entire audio pool from the Audio Window into another folder it works fine again... but only until the song is reloaded.....

The processor seems great and I am occasionally having moments of pure bliss were everything runs great and ideas can just flow......

Any suggestions for the clicks and glitches, or anything I can do to make it run smoother?

And does anyone have any opinions on Nortons System Utils... Speed Disk? Is it going to improve life recording audio or hinder? Will it improve disk drive performance?

Yes, a bit more configuration specs could give us a better view on things. What PCI cards, drives, AGP, OS,...

My system is as follows....:-

Logic 5.2
Windows ME
Pulsar 2 in XTC mode
Matrox G550
512 Crucial PC2700
P4 2.4
Abit BE7 Raid
40 GB audio drive
20 GB system drive (on same eide cable)

One interesteing thing is that even though my system performance indicator is hardly registering I am stiull having the problems/clicks.....

The trouble here is XTC mode... Logic doesn't work well in XTC at all..; Forget XTC an use SFP, lots faster, less latency, better routing, specially in logic using the IO Helper plugin of Logic.

You have RAID disabled?
Have you checked DMA in the properties box for the hard drives?

The problem is probably not related to the CPU but moreso related to disk performance being impeded somehow. You did do a fresh re-install of windows?

Also, you might want to check the USB setup. USB conflicts can play hell with a system.

As a test, disable USB completely and see how you go.

Norton Utilities Speed disk is a very good tool in win98se. It makes my HD faster and so it avoids audio clicks.
Some people say, win XP and Norton Utilities isn't a good combination - I don't know cos I don't have any experiences with XP.
